Uncomplicated, but with all the indulgence we could want, this caramel and chocolate cake is simply one of the easiest recipes you can make... But it is delicious! If you shape it into a heart, it is also the perfect recipe for Valentine's Day , or to make love shine at home. Are you up for that?

To make the cake you can use a wide variety of molds, I'll tell you about that below. But first, look what quick cake recipe I bring you today!

Ingredients

  • 1 refrigerated shortcrust pastry
  • Tiptree Salted Caramel Sauce
  • 350 g of fondant chocolate (dark is preferable, to best contrast with the caramel, but little ones often like it better with milk).
  • 100 ml milk or cooking cream
  • 1 beaten egg
  • Salt flakes

Preparation

  1. In a heart-shaped mold (or another, see notes), spread a refrigerated shortcrust pastry.
  2. Prick it with a fork and brush the edges with beaten egg (it will help for a more beautiful finish and presentation).
  3. Bake the dough at 190ºC until golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool. When it is cold, if you have used a Removable heart mold , remove the cake from the mold.
  4. Apply a thin layer of Tiptree salted caramel.
  5. Melt the chocolate: in a bowl, put 360 g of fondant chocolate with 100 ml of milk or cooking cream, and melt in the microwave. Watch it every 30 seconds, mixing well when it starts to dissolve and making sure it doesn't burn; You will see that in one or two minutes you have it ready.
  6. On top of the layer of caramel that you have applied to the cake, now spread a thicker layer of melted chocolate on top.
  7. Apply a few flakes of salt (yes, do it! Apart from looking good on the dark chocolate, salt helps generate contrasts with the sweetness of each bite, and makes it even more delicious).
  8. Let it cool in the refrigerator so that the chocolate hardens, or serve warm if that's fine for you. And let's make love shine!

Grades

  • Instead of shortcrust pastry, you can also use puff pastry, but be sure to put weights, such as ceramic balls or chickpeas, when you bake the dough, because otherwise the base will rise excessively without any filling on top.
  • We suggest giving this cake a heart shape for the sweetest days of the year (Valentine's Day, wedding anniversary, or new year anniversary...). To do this, you have several options in the store, such as the Kaiser removable mold, the beautiful Emille Henry ceramic mold or you can make beautiful individual hearts with the De Buyer heart-shaped perforated rings .
  • You can make the same cake with another shape, simply round in the Le Creuset round ceramic mold, or any other removable ceramic or non-stick mold.
