Without fuss, but with all the indulgence we could wish for, this caramel and chocolate tart is simply one of the easiest recipes you can make... But it's delicious! If you shape it into a heart, it's also the perfect recipe for Valentine's Day, or to make love shine at home. Are you in?

To make the tart you can use a wide variety of molds; I talk about that below. But first, look at this quick tart recipe I bring you today!

Ingredients

  • 1 refrigerated shortcrust pastry
  • Tiptree salted caramel sauce
  • 350 g of fondant chocolate (dark is preferable to contrast best with the caramel, but children often prefer milk).
  • 100 ml of milk or cooking cream
  • 1 beaten egg
  • Flaky salt

Preparation

  1. In a heart-shaped pan (or another shape, see notes), spread a refrigerated shortcrust pastry.
  2. Prick it with a fork and brush the edges with beaten egg (this will help achieve a nicer finish and presentation).
  3. Bake the pastry at 190 ºC until golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. When it's cool, if you used a removable heart pan, remove the tart from the pan.
  4. Spread a thin layer of Tiptree salted caramel.
  5. Melt the chocolate: in a bowl, put 360 g of fondant chocolate with 100 ml of milk or cooking cream, and melt in the microwave. Check it every 30 seconds, stirring well when it starts to melt and ensuring it doesn't burn; you'll see that in a minute or two it reaches the right consistency.
  6. On top of the caramel layer you applied to the tart, now spread a thicker layer of melted chocolate.
  7. Sprinkle some flakes of salt (yes, do it! Besides looking nice against the dark chocolate, the salt helps create contrasts with the sweetness of each bite, making it even more delicious).
  8. Let it cool in the fridge so the chocolate hardens, or serve warm if you prefer it that way. And make love shine!

Notes

  • Instead of shortcrust pastry, you can also use puff pastry, but be sure to use weights, like ceramic baking beads or chickpeas, when baking the pastry, because otherwise the base will puff up excessively without any filling on top.
  • We suggest shaping this tart as a heart for the sweetest days of the year (Valentine's Day, a dating anniversary, or years together...). For that, you have several options in the shop, like the removable Kaiser pan, the beautiful Emile Henry ceramic pan or you can make lovely individual hearts with the De Buyer heart-shaped perforated rings.
  • You can make the same tart in another shape — simply round in the Le Creuset ceramic round pan, or any other pan, ceramic or nonstick removable.
