We can now find the best summer fruits in the markets: peaches, nectarines, plums, watermelons and of course melons. All these fruits share the characteristic of being very sweet and very high in water content, which makes them our allies for maintaining good hydration at this time of year.
And of course, in summer we also crave fresh things and fruit sorbets are an excellent option. Since I got my sorbet maker attachment for KitchenAid, I make my own sorbets in no time. The varieties are endless, as you can make them from a single fruit or combine several. Today I chose to make a sorbet with some cantaloupe melons, which are sweet and have a very striking orange color.
Keep in mind that to use the sorbet maker attachment (the KitchenAid ice cream maker), you must leave it in the freezer for about 15 hours and the mixture you are going to put in the ice cream maker must be very cold. This way, you will achieve an optimal result.
Kitchen Aid with ice cream attachment and Le Creuset ramekins
Ingredients
- 2 cantaloupe melons
- the juice of one lemon
- a bunch of spearmint
- 100gr of sugar
- 200ml water
Preparation
- Make a simple syrup by putting the water and sugar in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil for 5 minutes. After that time, remove it from the heat and add a bunch of spearmint. Let it infuse for 10 minutes.
- Cut the melon. Discard the skin and seeds. Put the flesh in the blender jar and blend it (with the help of a hand blender or a food processor).
- Strain the syrup and add it to the blended melon flesh. Mix everything and chill in the fridge for a few hours, until it is very cold.
- Attach the ice cream maker attachment to your KitchenAid and pour in the melon mixture. Set to speed 2 and let it churn for 25-30 minutes. With this time you get the texture of a slush. If you like it that way, you can serve it in glasses and drink it with a straw. If you prefer it firmer, you should store it in the freezer for 2 hours.
- Whether you choose to serve it as a slush or as a sorbet, finish by decorating with some mint leaves.

I served this delicious melon sorbet in the Le Creuset ramekins. They are very versatile dishes that I use to serve both sweet and savory recipes.
Note: the amount of sugar is approximate. It will depend on your personal taste and the sweetness of the fruit. You can choose not to add any, or replace it with other options such as honey, agave syrup or the sweetener of your choice.

Gracias
