I’m in love with the combination of the pear’s sweetness and softness with the flavor, intensity, and saltiness of Gorgonzola cheese. It’s a combo I often have as an appetizer or snack to curb hunger: pear slices with bits of Gorgonzola. Just like that—delicious!

But you can give that combination a prettier, more polished finish by wrapping it in Serrano ham and melting it in the oven. Wonderful!

Today’s recipe works as a dinner solution, a starter, or the perfect side for fish on the grill or baked. I hope you give it a try—while it might sound surprising at first, I promise it’s a real delicacy.

Lurch vegetable corer

Ingredients

  • 2 medium pears
  • 100 g Gorgonzola
  • 2 slices Serrano ham

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 ° C.
  2. With a sharp knife, cut off the tops of the pears, creating a “lid” about 2 cm below the stem.
  3. Hollow out the pears with the Lurch fruit and vegetable corer and fill each one with 50 g of Gorgonzola.
  4. Wrap each pear with a slice of Serrano ham and secure it with a toothpick or wooden skewer.
  5. To finish, put the “lids” back on the pears, place them in an oven-safe dish (the Nordic Ware Naturals pans are great for this) and bake for 20 minutes at 180 ºC.
  6. Arrange on a plate, accompanied by some walnuts or mixed nuts if you’re having it on its own, or serve it as a side for fish on the grill. Enjoy!
