Discover how this recipe becomes a true culinary delight with just a few steps in your air fryer (and if you don't have one yet, don't worry — we also provide times to make it in your conventional oven).

Ingredients (for 2 people)

  • 2 salmon fillets
  • 2 slices of toast
  • ¼ bunch of chives
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil (or oil-based release spray)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper or pepper blend
  • 30 g butter
  • 2 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp honey

Preparation

  1. Toast the bread and cut it into cubes.
  2. Wash the spring onions, dry them and cut them into thin slices.
  3. Wash the lemon with hot water, dry it and finely grate half of the peel with a microplane grater.
  4. Wash the salmon fillets, dry them, rub them with oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. For the mustard base: in a bowl, mix the butter, mustard and honey until you get a creamy mixture. Add the lemon zest, chives and toasted bread cubes to the mixture. Mix to coat the bread and distribute everything evenly in the sauce you have prepared. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. If you have an air fryer: Place the salmon fillets on the air fryer tray (we use the Zwilling) and spread the mixture (the mustard base) evenly over the fillets. Cook at 180 °C for approximately 10-12 minutes, using the “Fish” program (if you have very thick fillets they will require a few more minutes, or if they are thin you can have them done in 10 minutes).
  7. If you do it in a conventional oven: Arrange the fillets in an oven-safe dish, and bake for about 15-20 minutes with top and bottom heat at 180 ºC, until you see that the salmon has changed color and appears slightly browned on the outside.
  8. Once ready, remove and serve immediately. It's a dish to eat hot!

Notes

  • If you like, you can omit the toasted bread from the mustard base, and leave the toasts whole as a side to the dish.
  • You can serve mustard salmon with a bit of cooked rice, vegetables, a green salad, some vegetables on the griddle... Just as-is or with sides, it's delicious!
  • Personally, I think salmon is better slightly undercooked than overcooked. Therefore, don't overdo the times: if you cook it too long it will be dry, and it's a shame given how delicious it is at the right point!
  • If you want, to avoid dirtying the air fryer, you can place a little baking paper on the base, or you can use the Ibili paper trays that you will find here.
  • Beyond being able to fry without oil and the energy savings that air fryers offer, their great advantage is also the time you gain when baking: being a much smaller chamber than a conventional oven, it reaches the desired temperature quickly, the heat reaches the food faster and you have your meals ready in very few minutes.
