This recipe for veggie supreme pizza has everything to be the star of Fridays (and every day of the week!). It's a vegetarian pizza full of seasonings that will win over any palate: we'll prepare a very aromatic tomato sauce that will delight everyone. In the pizza topping, the green pepper, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and red onion will be the VIP guests of our veggie supreme pizza, not forgetting the black olives, which add that salty, pronounced note to every bite.
To achieve a nicely crispy crust, we'll bake it on the Naturals® pizza pan from Nordic Ware which, thanks to its inner air chamber and material, heats up very quickly and—thanks to its perforated surface—allows heat to reach the dough just as fast, giving it that appetizing golden touch.
Whenever I bring you a pizza recipe I love to highlight how easy and quick it is to make and how much everyone likes it, no matter the ingredients. At home, it's usually on Fridays and just by saying, "We're having pizza!", the kids (and the grown-ups too) cheer with joy, since besides being something they love, they volunteer as eager little helpers for the occasion.
One of the great virtues of pizza is that it accepts all kinds of ingredients and that's always an advantage. Deciding the pizza flavors is part of the party and it's usually the children who choose what they want with one single condition: there must always be a veggie option. That way we also include the vegetables and they eat the pizza without complaining.
Pizza night? Let's get the recipe!
Naturals pizza pan from Nordic Ware
Ingredients
For the homemade sauce:
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons natural grated/crushed tomato
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped or 2 teaspoons dried parsley
- 1 pizza dough base*
- Cornmeal (for the pan)
- 6 mushrooms sliced
- 1 green pepper thinly sliced
- 1 medium red onion thinly sliced
- 6 cherry tomatoes halved
- 6 black olives sliced
- Grated mozzarella (buffalo or vegan)
*You can buy the pizza base or make it at home. It's very easy to prepare and really worth it. You can find the recipe for the traditional pizza base here.
Preparation
For the homemade sauce:
- Heat the olive oil in a saucepan or frying pan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped garlic and sauté until lightly golden.
- Add the crushed tomato along with the rest of the ingredients and stir to combine everything.
- When it starts to boil, reduce the heat and simmer until it thickens for about 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
For the veggie supreme pizza:
- Preheat the oven to 230 °C.
- Sprinkle the Naturals® pizza pan from Nordic Ware with cornmeal.
- Roll out the pizza dough and place it in the pan.
- Bake the dough without toppings for 5 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the oven and spread the sauce over the dough with a spoon so it's evenly distributed.
- Place all the toppings, leaving the cheese for last.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese melts and the edges of the pizza crust are slightly golden.
- Serve hot and enjoy its flavor with every bite.
Notes
- You can vary the pizza vegetables to your taste. Add different peppers, eggplant, some green asparagus, leek, or carrot. Whatever you like best!
- Try adding some pickles or chopped capers or place some arugula leaves on top as soon as it comes out of the oven.
- The tomato sauce is great and, as you've seen, very easy to prepare, so it's worth making a larger amount and storing it in jars in the fridge or in the freezer. You can use it to accompany other dishes: white rice, pasta, or with chicken on the griddle.
