Every day I enjoy the sweetness of pears more. Plain, in salads, in cakes and tarts or, as I bring them to you today, oven-roasted pears, with a touch of cinnamon and honey.

It is a great pleasure to enjoy a good breakfast calmly, and frankly this recipe of mine has been with me for many of my morning moments. Making them takes very little effort (if any) and you have them ready in no time.

Roasted pears are perfect for serving with salads or fish on the grill or in the oven. Of course, you can also enjoy them on their own or, the way I like them, simply with bread and fresh cheese. It makes a great breakfast or dinner. Here are my tips!

Laura Ashley ceramic baking dish , cooling rack Nordic Ware and Emile Henry ceramic ramekin

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe but firm pears (sweet but not falling apart with heat)
  • 1 lemon
  • A few cinnamon sticks
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Rosemary, orange blossom or multi-flower honey

Preparation

  1. In an ovenproof dish, squeeze a little lemon. I have used the Laura Ashley ceramic dish, but you can use others (what matters is that it has edges to retain juices).
  2. Cut the pears into slices about a couple of centimeters thick and arrange them in the dish. I use this chance to move the pears in the lemon juice and turn them there so they soak it up (we do this to prevent them from turning brown). You can also squeeze a little more lemon over the top.
  3. Add a few cinnamon sticks and put in the oven, preheated on the top rack to 180º - 200 ºC
  4. When you see the pear skins wrinkled, remove the dish (if the oven was hot, they will be done in 10–13 minutes).
  5. Sprinkle a little ground cinnamon and honey (Be careful! Pears are already very sweet... don't overdo it).

Note to turn these roasted pears into a VIP breakfast

The pears are delicious as in the recipe, with cinnamon and honey. But to not make them seem so sweet and to enjoy them in a delicious breakfast, I invite you to try them served with bread and cheese, as follows:

  1. Prepare (1) a toast from a good bread or (2) soft bread with tomato, salt and oil.
  2. Place the roasted pear on top of the bread and a little ricotta, fresh cheese or mató.
  3. Now drizzle the honey.
