There are absolutely delicious dishes that are very easy to prepare. These are the dishes that solve an improvised meal or when you don't have much time. At home, one of these basics is the rocket salad with parmesan. It is a dish that we love when well seasoned.

Today, while I was preparing it, I had the idea of telling you about the grater that we always use at home, the Microplane Zester Grater . Does a simple grater deserve a whole post? This one does! It is the best grater in the world (so I was told, and so I have confirmed it). Without a doubt, it deserves to be told about its virtues.

What is most surprising and why it receives the most good reviews is that it can grate hard foods extremely finely without having to make the slightest effort. With almost no pressure, it grates like cotton. That is why it is ideal for hard cheeses such as Parmesan, citrus fruits, chocolate, spices and vegetables such as garlic and onion.

You'll get an idea of how well it works just by watching the beginning of this video:

Thanks to its excellent cutting edge, it has become the benchmark in the world market for graters of its kind. The most curious thing is how this grater was developed: it was not so long ago, in 1994, when the wife of a carpenter used one of her husband's favourite tools to grate the orange she wanted to grate for the cake she was preparing (she was already fed up with the graters she had tried up until then not working well). She was amazed to see how the zest fell effortlessly and in the form of snowflakes, and that is how a grater of the same style was developed.

Another thing I love is that the blade has little side walls on the bottom, which helps keep the zest from falling out. I find this great when I'm zesting citrus or spices where you get a small amount of zest, because it keeps it on top of the grater so I can quickly deposit it wherever I want. You just grate along the top of the food, with the grater upside down, as you can see in the photo.

(Left) Zester grater laid flat so that zest falls down; (right) laid upside down to retain zest on the grater itself.

Another feature of the Zester is its very long blade. It measures 32cm long including the ergonomic and soft handle, very pleasant to the touch. Being made of stainless steel, you can wash it in the dishwasher.

While writing the article, I checked the reviews left by our customers on the product page. I see that I'm not the only one who is in love with this grater, because all the reviews speak highly of it. I encourage you to check them out ( here ), the truth is that I smile when I read them. In addition, you will also see that the grater has a very affordable price, and that it will be more than compensated by the good results it will provide you.

You may also be interested to know that we now have a mini version of the same grater, ideal for spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, chilli or for garlic or nuts. And if you are afraid of cutting yourself, you will also find the Microplane cut-resistant glove, ideal for cutting with a knife or grating.

I would also like to tell you that the Microplane Zester is Microplane's most famous grater, but it has other graters designed for other uses and preferences. If you want to see them, you can find them at this link .
