1. Uses for peach syrup

  1. Pour a tablespoon of syrup into tea or infusions of orange, lemon, or other fruit drinks. It will add sweetness and an extra fruity note to the beverage.
  2. Apply it to plain yogurt, optionally with fruit pieces. It’s a great way to sweeten yogurt, turning it into a delicious snack or dessert.
  3. Undoubtedly, one of the best uses to make the most of canned peach syrup is to use it in baking, to make cakes. The syrup is the secret ingredient for making super-moist and sweet cakes. For that reason, I detail below how to use syrup in cakes and I leave you a recipe that uses it.

Syrup is ideal for sweetening yogurt or a yogurt-and-fruit breakfast, and it’s perfect for preserving cut fruit.

4. Peach syrup can also be used as a sauce for desserts. Heat it in a Shallow Casserole over medium heat, add a little cornstarch to thicken it (a teaspoon or dessert spoonful) and you'll have a delicious sauce to serve with ice cream, cakes (and sponge cakes) or fruit.
5. For preserving fruit: syrup, given its sugar-rich nature, is a perfect preservative. So you can use it when you’ve cut too much fruit or haven’t finished all the fruit you served at the table, when you want to cut fruit ahead of an event, or for making a tart and you don’t want it to brown. Just add the syrup to an airtight jar and put the cut fruit inside. It’s a great way to preserve it (and prevent browning), and when you eat it it’s sweet and both kids and adults enjoy it. That fruit preserved in syrup is also ideal to add to yogurt.
6. For fruit salad: fruit salad is often served with orange juice, but you can also use peach syrup! Just pour a few tablespoons over the prepared fruit salad.
7. Peach syrup can be used as a delicious sweet base to make a peach chicken sauce.
8. Store it in an airtight jar and use it to glaze your fruit tarts (like an apple or strawberry puff pastry tart), or your cakes. You’ll see it adds that fruity, sweet touch that completes the tart, and it also helps it look shinier and prettier.
9. When serving crepes and pancakes (pancakes): serve your crepes and pancakes with a bit of fruit and, just as you drizzle a little honey, you can drizzle some peach syrup (not too much, or they’ll get too soggy). That sweetness and the gentle peach aroma taste delicious.

Use syrup to sweeten crepes and pancakes, and to glaze your tarts and cakes

2. Guidelines on how to use syrup in cake recipes

A simple yogurt cake can be an extra-moist cake if you use the syrup from canned peaches. Here I leave the theory I know for making use of the juice from canned peaches:

HOW TO USE SYRUP IN RECIPES:

  • Syrup can replace the same amount of sugar called for in the recipe (that is, if the recipe calls for 2 cups of sugar, you can replace 1 of them with 1 cup of syrup).
  • It is not recommended to replace 100% of the sugar amount, because the batter would become too liquid and it’s hard to know how much extra flour would be needed to compensate. It’s better to use syrup to replace only part of the sugar, also with the intention of adding a fruity aroma to the cake.
  • Another interesting use of syrup is to brush the cake: you can use syrup to moisten the cake a few minutes before taking it out of the oven, or after it has been baked and cooled. Prick the cake several times with a fork and pour the syrup over it. This will make the cake juicier and give it a subtle, delicious peach flavor.

3. Yogurt cake recipe with syrup

Applying the theory I just explained, here is the yogurt cake recipe so many of us know, but using the syrup from canned peaches:

Ingredients

  • 1 plain yogurt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 yogurt-measure of sunflower oil or mild olive oil
  • 1 yogurt-measure of sugar (normally, without syrup, I would use 2 measures)
  • 1 yogurt-measure of peach syrup
  • 3.5 yogurt-measures of flour (without syrup I would use only 3)
  • 1 packet of baking powder

Preparation:

Mix everything with a whisk, pour into the pan and bake at 170 ºC, and at the end brush the whole cake with more syrup you have reserved.
NOTES:
*I don’t like to add vanilla when I make the cake with syrup, because personally the vanilla flavor clashes with the peach. What does go wonderfully with the cake, if you want variations, is:
  • Chocolate chips
  • Replace the pastry flour with almond flour (partially or completely)
  • Add macadamia nuts (I love them with peach flavor), pecans, or walnuts
  • Orange zest
  • One yogurt-measure of carob or cocoa powder (then reduce half a measure of flour)
If you haven’t used peach syrup yet, I hope you’re encouraged to try it, because it’s a great way to make use of it.
I hope you found these tips interesting. I’d love to know if you have more uses or ideas to make the most of syrup!

Grazie per il tuo commento, Agata.

Un ottimo modo per utilizzare lo sciroppo nei dessert è metterlo da parte.
