If you're looking for a super quick, healthy recipe for any situation, this roasted Brussels sprouts with ham recipe is for you! You prepare it in 1 minute and let the oven do the work for only 20, so it's a quick and very impressive recipe.
For the roasted sprouts you only need the basic ingredients plus oil, salt and pepper, and an oven-safe tray. Personally, I like to make the most of the oven, so whenever I switch it on to bake a cake or roast fish or meat, I add a Naturals tray by Nordic Ware filled with vegetables or, as in this case, Brussels sprouts to make the most of the roasting.
When is this recipe ideal?
- You can serve the roasted Brussels sprouts both as an appetizer: you can skewer some ham pieces and a Brussels sprout with a toothpick, and repeat with all of them to serve a plate full of sprouts-and-ham skewers; or you can set out plates or bowls on the table so everyone can help themselves to as many as they want.
- Serve them as a first course, it's a healthy, light and complete recipe, a perfect first course for everyday meals.
- As a side to a main course: you can serve any meat or fish cooked on the grill or roasted in the oven with these Brussels sprouts with ham; you'll see they pair perfectly (also, besides flavor they add color to the dish, making them all the more desirable).
Recipe variations
- It's as common to make Brussels sprouts with ham as with bacon, or you can also use a mix of both.
- For those who want to make it more indulgent and seek a sweet contrast, you can sprinkle brown sugar or honey on top to caramelize the dish.
- For those who want to emphasize the healthy aspect more, also add spring onions to the tray, which are always delicious when roasted, or accompany them with chopped carrots, with salt, pepper and oil and they will turn out great in the same time
- If you like nuts, you can add some sliced or chopped almonds; they'll provide that crunch that many enjoy.
Revol porcelain dishes (oven-safe)
Ingredients
- Brussels sprouts
- Ham or bacon
- Olive oil
- Salt
- Black pepper or mixed peppercorns
Preparation
- Place the Brussels sprouts in the Naturals tray by Nordic Ware or in an oven-safe tray.
- Scatter the ham, bacon or a mix of both over the sprouts.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Drizzle a good splash of oil.
- Mix everything a little, spread evenly over the tray and put in a preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes at 200 ºC (you'll see the ham lose its bright red color and the sprouts will have softened). Then switch to the grill function (if you have convection, even better—use it for faster roasting), and leave under the grill for 10 more minutes or until you see the sprouts nicely roasted (they roast quickly, don't take your eye off them).
Enjoy!
