Few recipes have I seen that are so easy, fun, quick to prepare and perfect to enjoy at the table as making this recipe for baked Camembert cheese turned into a mummy for Halloween. You'll dip until there are no mummies left!
You'll see it won't take even 2 minutes to have it ready, it looks super aesthetic and fun on the table, and honestly enjoying the cheese in dipable bites is a delicious option, perfect as a starter or for a dinner.

Ingredients
For the Cheese Mummy:
- A round Camembert or Brie cheese
- A sheet of puff pastry
- A couple of black olives
- A carrot
- Egg for brushing
- Sticks or crackers
- Toasted bread
- Roasted carrots
- Baked pear or apple
Preparation
- Unfold the puff pastry sheet and use a pizza cutter or a sharp knife to cut it into strips.
- Slice a couple of black olives, and keep the inner rings.
- Peel a carrot, and cut a couple of slices from the narrower end.
- Arrange the carrot tips and place the black olive rings on top to make the eyes. Next, wrap the cheese with a few strips of puff pastry, like bandages.
- Place the camembert in the cheese baker or in an ovenproof dish.
- Brush the puff pastry with beaten egg.
- Put the cheese baker in the oven, preheated to 210 ºC and on the top rack. Keep it about 10 minutes, until the puff pastry is golden.

To make roasted carrots
When you cut the carrot tips for the eyes, you can take the opportunity to peel a few more and cut them lengthwise. Arrange them on a baking tray (for these loose roasting bits the Bandeja Naturals Nordic Ware works perfectly for me, the brand's star product in the USA - yes, even more than the bundt pans!, they're so practical and versatile).
Sprinkle with salt and pepper and drizzle with oil, and put in the oven together with "the mummy cheese" (if you have one of the small trays it's ideal, because everything fits on the same oven tray). Since the oven is very hot and the tray is on the top, you'll see they roast quickly.

Notes
- I saw the recipe some time ago on an American website, Delish, and although they made it with Brie it works just as well with Camembert. Choose the option you prefer at home.
- Don't stray from the oven! Since it's brushed and the oven is hot, you'll see the puff pastry cooks quickly. And you can't overdo it, otherwise the cheese will melt and lose the effect.
- For reddish eyes, you can also use peppers as the original recipe did or tomatoes. I preferred to use carrot - they take on color as they brown and I could also prepare the tray of carrots: roasted carrots are ideal for dipping in the cheese.
- Serve the cheese also with some crackers, sticks or toasted bread cut into strips. The cheese is for dipping!
- If you're fully into Halloween mode, you can also set the table with some walnuts: they look like brains, and pair perfectly with the cheese's flavor.
And let's not forget that Halloween is Chestnut Day! How about serving it with some roasted chestnuts at home? Like walnuts, they look like little brains, and with the cheese I assure you they'll be frightfully good!!
What do you say, are you going to dip this Halloween? Deal?
