My take on Le Creuset Grill
The grill is a utensil that we use all year round, for meat, fish and vegetables (at least!), but cooking on the griddle is something as easy as it is healthy, and in good weather we tend to use it even more. That's why we thought it interesting that Miriam, author of The Winter Guest , gave us her opinion on the smooth iron grill from Le Creuset, which she has had for a long time and knows well.
I have few cookware that I have purchased in the last year that I use as often as the Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron Grill . I even use it to make homemade hot dogs, I put the sausages on one side and toast the bread on the other side… yummy!
This grill is heavy due to its composition, but precisely for this reason it conducts heat like no other material and distributes it very evenly, not only where the heat from the fire hits directly, but over its entire surface. In this other blog article you have general considerations about cast iron utensils that will surely interest you.
It does not have those characteristic ripples that we see in many foods cooked in this way, since it has a flat surface. This undoubtedly makes it easier to wash and with less tendency for remains to remain on it, since it does not have nooks and crannies. The interior of the grill has a black enamel finish that does not require any type of prior curing to be able to use it.
The Le Creuset grill is suitable for any type of heat source, gas, ceramic or induction. It is equally effective for grilling meat, fish or shellfish. You can check it in this recipe for grilled prawns , which are perfect, or in this other one on my Moorish skewers blog.
So that the food does not stick, you just have to take into account that you have to heat the grill to the fullest, it is better to spend the heating time than not to arrive. And painting it with some oil once it is perfectly hot is enough for the food to remain intact. It resists the high temperatures necessary to mark meat properly, for example, without degrading at all, contrary to what happens to non-stick pans, with which you have to be careful above a certain temperature level, as they tend to to spoil This grill can last us a lifetime (and actually comes with a lifetime warranty, which says it all, right?)
I am in the habit of always pouring half a glass of water on the grill as soon as I have finished using it; the water boils due to the heat that the grill preserves and helps to soften the residues that may have remained from the food, and that if we let them continue cooking (since the grill is still hot after turning off the heat) they will end up sticking. Although the manufacturer indicates that it can be washed in the dishwasher, we find that it is always more advisable to wash by hand to guarantee a longer duration in perfect condition. If, after washing the grill, any residue remains stuck, I usually rub it with coarse salt; coarse salt acts as an abrasive that does not scratch the enamel, since it is not hard enough to do so, but it does remove the remains.
Regarding measurements and shapes, I have the rectangular one, which also exists in red; and everything that I have commented would also apply to the oval grill , which has exactly the same characteristics and care but changing the design (you can see it here ). For those who prefer to mark the meat with the grill lines, Le Creuset also has iron grill plates, with various shapes and colors. You can see them all in the grills and grills section (here).
The grill is an essential tool when it comes to cooking lightly and with the minimum amount of fat; I assure you that a good grill is essential if you like grilled food. And now that the bikini operation is coming (I know you) we are going to take the grill out of the drawer more than once and twice.
