There are combinations that surprise you from the very first sip, and this is one of them. If you like coffee and are one of those who eagerly await horchata season, you have to try this mix. The result is a creamy, very refreshing drink with the perfect balance between the slight bitterness of coffee and the natural sweetness of a good homemade horchata.

The best part is that it is very easy to make. If you make the horchata at home with the ChufaMix (the VeganMilker, designed to make all kinds of plant-based milks), you'll get a much more natural drink, with no preservatives and all the flavor of freshly made tiger nut. And if you also make the coffee with the new KitchenAid automatic coffee machine, which includes a function for making cold coffee, you'll have a drink ready in just a few minutes and with spectacular results.

It is an ideal recipe to enjoy mid-morning, after eating, or on those hot afternoons when you want something different. Once you try it, it is hard to go back to the usual iced coffee.

Ingredients

  • 100 g dried tiger nut
  • 500 ml cold water (plus extra as needed for soaking)
  • Sugar to taste
  • 80 ml freshly brewed cold coffee
  • Ice

*Note: We are sharing the recipe to make 500 ml of horchata, but for the recipe you will only use 80ml.

Preparation

  1. Soak the tiger nut overnight so it hydrates properly.
  2. Drain it and make the horchata with the ChufaMix: Add the 500 ml of water and blend the tiger nut with an electric blender until you get a smooth mixture. Then raise the filter slightly so it is not in contact with the liquid and press firmly with the Chufamix pestle to extract all the drink. Remove the filter with the squeezed tiger nut, add sugar. Stir until it dissolves completely and chill the horchata in the fridge so it is very cold.
  3. Make 80 ml of coffee using the cold coffee function on the KitchenAid automatic coffee machine and let it finish cooling if necessary.
  4. Fill a glass with plenty of ice and pour in the horchata and coffee in equal parts (80ml and 80ml). Stir gently and serve immediately.
