You will agree with me that one of the things we have always seen in our parents' drawers is the corkscrew - that small kitchen utensil that seems to be immortal. Likewise, when you buy one you expect it to last the same amount of time in your drawer, and that it meets such important aspects as being easy to use, not requiring strength - and not requiring skill either! - and removing the cork in perfect condition. That is why it is important to know the options and choose well.

Today I'm going to talk about Screwpull, one of the best corkscrew brands in the world. It's a brand that belongs to Le Creuset, which in itself gives you complete confidence; but if you've tried one of their corkscrews, we're sure to agree that it's as much of a pleasure to open a bottle with them as it is to cook in one of their cocottes.

The design of the first Screwpull corkscrew model was already based on the premise that it should open a bottle without effort or injury, and without damaging the cork. The result was an instant and resounding success, and it was also beautiful! Those that followed have always maintained these premises, and it is certainly worth knowing some of them because they make opening the bottle even easier and better, or because they are the perfect and unexpected gift that many will appreciate.

Classic and lever corkscrews

The classic corkscrew works in two stages, using a lever. It includes a capsule cutter* and also a bottle opener. It is a safe, robust and timeless value. The name itself says it all, it is the classic Sommelier corkscrew. I find the special model they have made with a wooden handle a success, which makes it even more classic and elegant.

The other great classic is a corkscrew that has always been around but has been revamped. This is the GS-300 Triology corkscrew , with which you only have to turn the handle in the same direction until the cork comes out: as you turn, the spiral penetrates the cork and the latter continues to rise in the same spiral until it comes out of the neck of the bottle. There is no more force than that of turning, no doubt about when to pull it out because the cork will come out on its own, and no fear of the cork breaking either.

Another strong point of this corkscrew is that it includes the new “Activ Ball” technology, which prevents the spiral from piercing the cork and ensures that the wine is kept in perfect condition. It also includes a capsule cutter that works with a simple gesture.

Finally, a gem from Screwpull: the LM-150 lever corkscrew . Why is it a gem? Because there is no corkscrew that is easier or leaves your guests more speechless: you place it on top of the cork, pull the lever forward and pull the lever back, "et voilà!", the bottle is uncorked. I invite you to watch the following video to believe it.

Corkscrew for cava or sparkling wines

These corkscrews are ideal for opening our bottles of cava or sparkling wine effortlessly, comfortably and safely.

The one I find a delight is the SW-105. To use it you have to insert the corkscrew into the mouth of the bottle and turn it slightly. The same pressure you exert to hold it will help to remove the cork, which will be caught in the corkscrew itself.

The other corkscrew for sparkling wines worth looking at is the cava star . Elegant, space-saving, practical and allows you to open the bottle easily as it holds the cork perfectly and you only have to turn it while applying a little pressure.

Gift packs and other accessories

If you are thinking of giving a corkscrew as a gift, it is worth considering some of our packs and also accessories that greatly help to enjoy a good wine or cava.

One of the most popular accessories is the cooler sleeve . It is a shame that you cannot appreciate through the photographs what they convey when you have them in front of you: Screwpull covers have a very high quality and design, with a great finish that makes them very elegant, they cover the bottle from its base to the neck and retain the cold for a long time. There is the most classic version (the smooth cover, black , elegant and always a success, or the stately burgundy one ) and the more casual or daring designs: one with the Eiffel Tower design , paying homage to the country of wine and where Le Creuset comes from, and the Viticulture design , which pays homage to everything that surrounds the world of wine.

The second accessory is not as well known, but it is a great ally for those who tend to have a half-open bottle. It is the vacuum pump : with no more complication than placing it on the cork that comes with it and pouring it 5 or 6 times, it extracts the air from the bottle so that the wine does not oxidize, thus extending the life of that wine.

If you like the idea, buying the corkscrew, vacuum pump, stoppers and capsule cutter set is a more than successful idea - even more so for the price at which it is offered. Everything comes presented in a beautiful box, and the whole set always makes a great impression.

The other set that comes in the pack is the champagne corkscrew with the crown **, another great invention: it is a stopper that allows you to seal the bottle hermetically, which will help maintain the effervescence of the wine or champagne for longer. A great pair to surprise!

*The term "capsule" refers to the wrapping that surrounds the cap, usually made of tin. The cap cutter is the tool that helps you cut the caps for easy removal.
