If you've reached this post, you must be passionate about baking (or breadmaking) and are considering buying a stand mixer for your kitchen. Choosing between a KitchenAid and an Ankarsrum Assistent Original depends a lot on your needs, your cooking style and the types of doughs or recipes you usually prepare. Both are very high-quality tools, but with key differences that make them more suitable for certain types of use.

In this post, we will analyze the main features of both mixers. I hope this comparison answers all your questions to help you choose the mixer that best suits you!

Design and functionality: How do they work?

One of the first differences between the KitchenAid and the Ankarsrum is their design and how they operate.

  • KitchenAid: With its motor located in the head and a planetary mixing system, the KitchenAid moves the attachment (hook, paddle or whisk) while the bowl remains stationary. This design is intuitive, easy to use and perfect for common baking tasks like cakes, cookies or whipping cream. Also, its compact and elegant design is a classic that makes people's eyes light up. It's gorgeous!
  • Ankarsrum: This is where this machine stands out for its originality. In the Ankarsrum, the bowl is the part that turns while the mixing arm stays fixed. This system is inspired by industrial mixers and is ideal for handling heavy doughs and large volumes. Its robust design may seem less aesthetic, but it is optimized for performance.

My advice? If you want a pretty, easy-to-use machine for general tasks, the KitchenAid is ideal. If you're passionate about general baking and want a versatile, efficient machine with an iconic design. It's perfect for mixing light doughs, preparing cakes, cookies, creams or working with attachments for varied tasks.

If you bake bread frequently or work with dense doughs, the Ankarsrum will be your best ally. If you knead bread regularly, work with large quantities or prefer a robust machine specialized in baking. It's an ideal investment for those who prioritize performance with dense doughs.

Capacity: How much do you need to prepare?

Here the bowl size comes into play, which determines the amount of dough or mixture you can work at once.

  • KitchenAid: Standard models, like the Artisan, have a 4.8 L bowl, enough for most home recipes. Although there are larger versions in the professional range (up to 6.9 L), its capacity is intended for moderate amounts.
  • Ankarsrum: With a 7 L bowl, this machine is designed for large volumes. It can handle up to 5 kg of dough, making it an excellent option for bakers or large families.

Which to choose? If you make recipes in standard batches, the KitchenAid will be more than sufficient. But if you knead for several days or work on larger projects, the Ankarsrum is hard to beat.

What quantities can each mixer handle?

  • KitchenAid: According to the brand, the KitchenAid Artisan, with a 4.8 liter bowl, can handle the following maximum ingredient quantities:
    • Egg whites: up to 12 units.
    • Pie dough: approximately 2.7 kg.
    • Mashed potatoes: around 3.2 kg.
    • Cookies (standard size 5.1 cm): up to 108 units.
    • Flour: up to 1 kg.

These figures indicate that the KitchenAid Artisan can handle up to 1 kg of flour, which translates to approximately 1.5 or 1.6 kg of bread dough, considering the addition of water and other ingredients.

  • Ankarsrum: The available data from Ankarsrum tells us that you can make in this machine:
    • Bread dough: up to 4 kg.
    • Denser pastry dough: up to 5 kg.

Performance: Who has more power?

Power and how it's delivered are key when we talk about mixers.

  • KitchenAid: Its planetary system offers excellent performance for baking and light to medium doughs. It can work with dense doughs, but always within the bowl limits and respecting usage times.
  • Ankarsrum: Designed for heavy work, its motor in the base and the bowl-turning system allow it to handle demanding doughs more efficiently. It's the perfect option if you regularly work with bread, pizza or pasta doughs.

Conclusion? If your needs are varied and you do more baking than breadmaking, the KitchenAid more than suffices. For intensive kneading and heavier doughs, the Ankarsrum shines.

Versatility: What else can they do?

Both machines are much more than simple mixers thanks to their accessories.

  • KitchenAid: Stands out for its wide range of accessories (sold separately), such as meat grinder, slicer, ice cream maker or even pasta attachments. It's a multifunctional machine that can become the center of your kitchen.
  • Ankarsrum: Although it has similar accessories, it is more focused on kneading and baking. It includes an extra bowl and beaters for tasks like whipping cream, mixing light doughs or preparing cookies, but its range of additional accessories is somewhat more limited.

My opinion? If you want a machine that does a bit of everything, the KitchenAid is more versatile. But if your priority is kneading, the Ankarsrum has the essentials.

Durability and warranty: Which will last longer with you?

  • KitchenAid: It is built to last many years with proper use. It offers a 5-year warranty (+ 15 years of repair rights), which is already more than usual for other appliances, and I'm telling the truth when I say there are thousands of people with a KitchenAid at home whose machines still work perfectly after decades.
  • Ankarsrum: Its robust design and powerful motor are made for intensive work. It includes a 7-year warranty for the motor and base.

Conclusion: KitchenAid or Ankarsrum?

About KitchenAid:

  • It's a versatile, elegant and efficient machine, perfect for those looking for an ally in baking and light to medium doughs. With a bowl capacity suitable for standard recipes, its planetary system ensures excellent performance. In the case of denser doughs, it works very well as long as its capacity and usage times are respected. Also, its elegant and compact design looks great in any kitchen.
    • For people who mainly do home baking (cakes, cookies, pies, etc.).
    • If you work with lighter doughs or knead in small quantities.
    • If you value compact and elegant design.
    • If you're looking for a multitask machine you can use with additional attachments.

About Ankarsrum:

  • Designed for intensive baking and the most demanding doughs, it stands out for its ability to handle large volumes smoothly. Its unique design and powerful motor make it an excellent option for those seeking a robust machine for heavy doughs or prolonged tasks.
    • For those who make bread, pizza or other dense doughs regularly.
    • If you need to process large quantities of dough (large families or small businesses).
    • If you value a super-robust and reliable machine that can last a lifetime.
    • If you prefer to prioritize kneading over other functions.

Both machines are great tools, but the key is finding the one that best fits your needs. If you're looking for a versatile solution for baking and everyday kneading, the KitchenAid is a fantastic choice. If your priority is baking and you work with dense doughs or large quantities, the Ankarsrum is unbeatable. Do you already know which one is for you?

Medidas (An x Al x H): 24 × 37 × 36 cm.

Qué amasadora me recomendarías? Y en cuanto a tamaño entiendo que la Kitchenaid es más compacta? Cuáles son las medidas de cada una? Muchísimas gracias!
