Today I propose a vegetable snack, easy to prepare and very healthy. These beet and sweet potato chips , with the crunchiness that comes from dehydration, are a great option to keep hunger at bay at any time of the day. A snack with all the flavour -because we add a delicious touch of spiciness!- and nutrients of both tubers, which is wonderfully preserved once ready.
To make these chips, in addition to the sweet potato and beetroot, you need two more ingredients: time and temperature. To control them in the easiest way possible, the best option is the WMF food dehydrator . Although there are other ways to prepare them, such as frying them or drying them in the oven, doing so in a dehydrator is undoubtedly simpler, cheaper and healthier , with the added benefit of not having to keep an eye on the process.
By dehydrating fresh foods, in this case beetroot and sweet potato, we will extend their shelf life, preserving all their nutrients while enhancing their flavour by removing the water they contain. It is a great way to preserve seasonal mushrooms, aromatic herbs or even cuts of meat, as well as vegetables and fruit.
Here is the recipe for these crispy beet and sweet potato chips .
Ingredients
- 2 whole fresh beets
- 1 sweet potato
For the marinade
- EVOO (2-3 tablespoons)
- Curry powder
- Sweet paprika
- Salt
- Pepper
- Cayenne or chilli flakes
Preparation
- Mix all the marinade ingredients together. Add the amount of each to your liking. Add a little more EVOO if necessary.
- Peel the beets and sweet potato and cut them into thin slices (about 2-3 mm).
- Spread the marinade over the slices of tubers and mix well to coat them as much as possible.
- Place the slices on the racks of the WMF food dehydrator and set the time (8 minutes) and temperature (70 °C).
Grades
- As you can see, the recipe is not difficult at all. And as I always say, feel free to adapt the marinade to your taste with the ingredients you like the most. The marinade indicated in the recipe is an option, but if you don't like any of the ingredients you can remove it, or if there is one that is not indicated and you want to add it, I'm sure it will also turn out great.
