Glass containers vs. plastic containers... There is no color!

Those of you who are getting to know us know that we don't have anything in the store that we don't have or would have at home. Well, I assure you that we have not had any plastic containers at home for a long time! The reasons are several, and in my opinion weighty, and for this reason in the store you can only find glass containers. Let me first talk about what I think of these materials.

The reasons why we only use glass containers or tupperware and not plastic are, firstly, for health, and secondly for an issue of efficiency.

Plastic containers, plastic tuppers , are dangerous to health because there may be migration of some components -such as monomers or plastic additives- into the food. That can happen especially due to the effect of applying heat, and how many of us put the container in the microwave? The consequences of this migration can be fatal to long-term health. Our body is not prepared to digest or process certain components, and some that plastic contains can even alter the natural balance of hormones (like BPA!), thus affecting growth for example, or there are carcinogenic components that undoubtedly all we want and should avoid.

Another reason why we don't like plastic containers at home is their degradation over time and after applying heat. And I'm not just talking about the microwave, with the temperature of the dishwasher water they already become ugly and you can see the deteriorated plastic after a while! In addition, plastic attracts dust, and packaging is not always hermetic, it can let gases and water vapor in and out, which affects the freshness of food or is easily contaminated.

And does glass have advantages? Well, all of them! Glass containers do not absorb odors or flavors, they are made 100% clean and remain as new, without any degradation. Besides, they are the perfect microwave containers, since you can put them in it without any fear for your health, and also in the dishwasher and refrigerator without problems. And very important: we can put them in the oven, something that we don't even think logically with the plastic ones. This allows you to cook directly in them, or heat or keep hot in the oven whatever interests you.

In the store we have Emsa glass containers , with hermetic closure and with the joint sealed to the lid so that it does not come off and food remains cannot enter between the joints. Customers really like it to take food to work (despite being a thick and somewhat heavy glass, everyone is delighted with the quality and closure!).

And having said that, I am now thinking that it is also worth assessing the fact that a plastic container can become deformed during transport or after putting things on top of it in the fridge, for example. The glass one will always remain the same. And, furthermore, for those of you who use them to eat directly from it, you will not deny that eating from a glass container is not the same as eating from a plastic one!
