It retains heat wonderfully and, thanks to the high temperatures reached by iron, it is a very efficient frying pan that you'll enjoy cooking with and savoring its delicious results.
What makes the skillet the classic American skillet?
For 125 years, the Lodge skillet has been a staple in kitchens around the world. Made in the United States from iron and treated with oil, its naturally seasoned cooking surface is ready to help you turn your meals into delicious moments.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Lodge cast iron pieces are heavy, and they are not dishwasher safe. One great thing about them (besides being amazing, natural skillets) is that they come pre-seasoned from the factory, so you can start using them as soon as they arrive at your home (no pre-seasoning required). But remember: they are made of cast iron but not enameled, so once washed they must be dried right away, or rust will form. If rust appears, simply scrub it off with a scouring pad to restore it. If you want, you can season it from time to time... Although every time you use it, you're already doing that! Use it every day, dry it immediately, and you'll have a skillet for life (and incredibly delicious recipes and natural flavors).

What sets the Lodge cast iron skillet apart
-
Its sturdy construction. The skillet skillet is made of cast iron, with no kind of nonstick coating, no PFOA, and no toxic elements. This strength lets you use any utensil when cooking with it, even stainless steel ones.
-
Its ease of handling. Even though it is a sturdy skillet, its design is made to be easy to handle. Its short, ergonomic handle, makes it easy to use and is also perfect both for using it in the oven, no matter how large it is, and for optimizing storage space.
-
Its durability. The pan is made entirely and in a single piece of cast iron, so it will last you much longer than a lifetime.
-
Its excellent balance of quality, durability, and price. These are affordable pieces with exceptional durability and unquestionable quality.
-
Its rough finish. Lodge makes all its skillets in one piece and in unique sand molds; this gives them their characteristic slightly rough finish on both the inside and outside surfaces and makes each piece unique and one of a kind. With use, a patina forms that eventually creates a smooth, naturally nonstick surface.
-
Its factory seasoning treatment. All Lodge cast iron pieces are seasoned in the factory, so when they arrive at your home they are ready to use. The seasoning of cast iron, called polymerization, consists of applying a layer of vegetable oil to the piece and heating it in the oven at a temperature high enough for the oil to bond to the iron. This process gives Lodge cookware its classic black patina, creating a naturally nonstick cooking surface, which is also a protective layer that helps prevent the pieces from rusting.
-
Its excellent nonstick properties. Lodge pieces offer natural nonstick performance, allowing you to cook with almost no oil. Plus, the more they are used, the more nonstick they become.
-
Its great heat retention and even heat distribution. Being made of iron, it retains heat exceptionally well for longer, and distributes it evenly. Thanks to the high temperatures iron reaches, it lets you sear food in its own juices, preserving all its flavor. The result is much tastier, with that classic flavor everyone loves.
-
Its versatility. Lodge pieces are suitable for all types of cooktops and heat sources. You can cook with it on gas, ceramic, electric, induction, wood-burning stoves, barbecues, and also in the oven.
-
Its pouring spouts. The traditional design of skillets integrates two pour spouts on the sides that make it easier to pour food, especially when cooking dishes with sauce, such as pasta dishes or brothier stews, like legumes or even braises.
- Lodge's more than 125 years of experience manufacturing cast iron pieces. Manufacturers since 1896, Lodge is an iconic brand not only in the USA, its country of origin, where they still make all their cast iron products, at the Lodge foundries in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.
When you want to use it, just let it heat up gradually so the heat is distributed evenly throughout the piece, and start cooking when it is very hot. To clean it, let it cool first; wash it with a non-abrasive sponge and detergent, and lightly oil the inside surface to prevent rust. For best preservation, it is recommended to always store it in a dry place.
Remember that the skillet is made of iron and is made in one piece, so both the handle and the grip heat up. With the Lodge hot-handle silicone protector and the Lodge silicone pot handle holders, you can handle it safely and without burning yourself.
NOTE: The factory seasoning gives Lodge cast iron pieces a rustic finish with certain imperfections, such as a brown mark on the rim, handle, or grip. Don't worry! These are small spots where the oil has not bonded to the iron, but you can use your piece without any problem. It is not a defect or rust and disappears with normal use and care.
