If you love cooking in cast iron and enjoy celebrations, the Sugar Skull Lodge round cast iron skillet skillet will win you over. Like all Lodge skillets, this pan stands out for its iconic short-handle design and pouring spouts and a sturdy one-piece cast iron construction.

But what makes it a collector's piece is the engraving of a Mexican sugar skull on its outer base, surrounded by floral and decorative details. Created by Mexican artist Lourdes Villagómez, the illustration pays tribute to the Day of the Dead celebration and turns this pan into a piece that is as beautiful as it is functional.

Made of cast iron, it stands out for its great heat retention for longer, and even heat distribution. Its natural nonstick surface, without coatings or linings and PFOA-free, and its beautiful engravings on the base make it a collectible pan that no kitchen should be without.

The Lodge skillet offers a cooking surface that, in addition to being highly efficient, improves its nonstick performance with use. With it, you can saute, brown, cook on the griddle, fry, roast, and bake everything from savory recipes to doughs or sweet dishes. It retains heat wonderfully, and thanks to the high temperatures reached by the iron, it is a very efficient frying pan, with which you will enjoy cooking and savoring its delicious results.

What makes the skillet the classic American frying pan?

For 125 years, the Lodge skillet has been a staple in kitchens around the world. Made in the United States from iron and seasoned with oil, its naturally seasoned cooking surface is ready to help you turn your meals into delicious moments.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Lodge cast iron pieces are heavy, and are not dishwasher safe. Their good points (apart from being incredible, natural pans) is that they come factory seasoned, so you can start using them as soon as you receive them at home (no prior seasoning required). But remember: they are made of cast iron but not enameled, so right after washing them they must be dried, or rust will appear. If rust does appear, simply scrub it off with a scouring pad to restore it. If you want, you can season it from time to time... Although you're doing that with every use! Use it daily, dry it immediately, and you'll have a pan for life (and incredibly tasty recipes with natural flavors).

What sets the Lodge Cast Iron Skillet apart

  • Its sturdy construction. The skillet frying pan is made of cast iron, with no type of nonstick coating, no PFOA, and no toxic elements. This sturdiness lets you use any utensil when cooking with them, including stainless steel ones.
  • Its easy handling. Even though it is a sturdy pan, its design is made to be easy to handle. Its short, ergonomic handle, makes it easy to handle and is also perfect both for using it in the oven, no matter how large it is, and for optimizing storage space.
  • Its durability. The pan is made entirely in a single piece of cast iron, so it will last you far beyond a lifetime.
  • Its excellent balance of quality, durability, and price. They are affordable pieces, with exceptional durability and unquestionable quality.
  • Its rough finish. Lodge makes all its pans in a single piece and in unique sand molds; this gives them their characteristic slightly rough finish on both the inside and outside surfaces and makes each piece unique and one of a kind. With use, a patina forms that will eventually create a smooth, naturally nonstick surface.
  • Its factory seasoning or curing. All Lodge cast iron pieces receive a factory seasoning or conditioning, so that when you receive them at home they are ready to use. Seasoning cast iron, called polymerization, involves applying a layer of vegetable oil to the piece and heating it in the oven at a temperature high enough for the oil to bond to the iron. This process gives Lodge cookware its classic black patina, creating a naturally nonstick cooking surface, which is also a protective layer that helps prevent the utensils from rusting.
  • Its excellent nonstick properties. Lodge pieces offer natural nonstick performance, allowing you to cook almost without oil. In addition, the more they are used, the more nonstick they become.
  • Its great heat retention and even heat distribution. Being made of iron, it retains heat extremely well for longer, and distributes it evenly. Thanks to the high temperatures iron reaches, it lets you sear food in its own juices, keeping all its flavor. The result is much tastier, like the flavors of old.
  • Its versatility. Logde pieces are suitable for all types of cooktops and heat sources. You can cook with them on gas, ceramic glass, electric, induction, wood-burning stoves, barbecue, and also in the oven.
  • Its pouring spouts. The traditional design of skillets includes two pour spouts on the sides that make it easier to pour food, especially when cooking dishes with sauce, such as pasta dishes or more brothy stews, such as legumes or even stews.
  • Lodge's more than 125 years of experience in manufacturing cast iron pieces. Manufacturers since 1896, Lodge is an iconic brand not only in the USA, its country of origin, where they still manufacture all their cast iron products in the Lodge foundries in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.

When you want to use it, just let it heat gradually so the heat spreads evenly throughout the whole piece, and start cooking when it is very hot. To clean it, let it cool first; wash it with a sponge and non-abrasive detergent, and lightly oil the inside surface to prevent rust. For best care, it is recommended to always store it in a dry place.

Remember that the pan is made of iron and is manufactured in one piece, so both the handle and the helper handle get hot. With the Lodge hot handle silicone holder and the Lodge silicone pot handle protectors, you can handle it safely and without burning yourself.

NOTE: Factory seasoning gives Lodge cast iron pieces a rustic finish with certain imperfections, such as an occasional brown mark on the rim, handle, or helper handle. Don't worry! These are small spots where the oil has not bonded to the iron, but you can use your piece without any problem. It is not a defect or rust and it disappears with normal use and care.
