The high walls make it ideal for frying, as it prevents splatter and, being made of cast iron, fried foods turn out very crisp. That extra depth gives it generous capacity, making it a great option for preparing any recipe, from a sauté or a spoon dish in the kitchen to a slow-cooked stew in the oven, a loaf on the barbecue, or migas over the campfire. The two handles make it easy to handle and will allow you to move it easily from the kitchen to the oven or carry it comfortably from the oven to the table.
What sets the Lodge cast iron skillet with two handles apart
-
Its sturdy construction. Lodge pots and pans are made of cast iron, with no type of non-stick coating or toxic elements. This sturdiness lets you use any utensil when cooking with them, even stainless steel ones.
-
Its greater depth. The high sides of this piece give it greater capacity and versatility. In addition to reducing splatter, they add to its functionality by making it a wonderful Shallow Casserole or an ideal pan for your doughs.
-
Its ease of handling. Even though it is a sturdy skillet, its design with two wide handles is meant to make it easy, comfortable, and safe to handle.
-
Its durability. The skillet is made entirely of cast iron, making it a piece that lasts far beyond a lifetime.
-
Its excellent balance of quality, durability, and price. These are affordable pieces, with exceptional durability and unquestionable quality.
-
Its rough finish. Lodge makes all its cookware in one piece and in unique sand molds; this gives it its characteristic slightly rough finish on both the inside and outside surface and makes each piece unique and one of a kind. With use, a patina forms that eventually creates a smooth and naturally non-stick surface.
-
Its factory seasoning treatment. All Lodge cast iron pieces are seasoned in the factory, so when you receive them at home they are ready to use. The seasoning of cast iron, called polymerization, consists of applying a layer of vegetable oil to the piece and heating it in the oven at a temperature high enough for the oil to bond to the iron. This process gives Lodge cookware its classic black patina, creating a naturally non-stick cooking surface, which is also a protective layer that helps prevent the cookware from rusting.
-
Its excellent non-stick properties. Lodge pieces offer a natural non-stick finish, allowing you to cook almost without oil. In addition, the more they are used, the more non-stick they become.
-
Its quick heating and heat retention. Being made of iron, it heats up quickly and the thickness of its body keeps the heat evenly for longer. This allows you to sear food in its own juices, keeping all its flavor. The result is much tastier, with those timeless flavors.
-
Its versatility. The skillet is suitable for all types of cooktops and heat sources. You can cook with it on gas, ceramic, electric, induction, wood-burning cookers, barbecue, fireplace, and also in the oven or over an open campfire.
- The more than 125 years of Lodge experience in cast iron manufacturing. Manufacturing since 1896, Lodge is an iconic brand not only in the USA, its country of origin, where they still make all their cast iron products, at the Lodge foundries in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.
IMPORTANT! As you may have guessed after seeing how they are made, the skillets ARE NOT perfect: they have small imperfections that are completely normal, usually linked to some irregularity in the cast iron. This is normal and should not worry you (if there isn't one small imperfection, there will be another). It is part of their process and charm, and you can rest easy because what matters is that the seasoning has been applied across the entire skillet.
When you want to use it, simply let it heat up gradually so the heat is distributed evenly throughout the piece, and start cooking when it is very hot. To clean it, let it cool first; wash it with a sponge and non-abrasive detergent, and lightly oil the inside surface to prevent rust. For optimal care, it is recommended to always store it in a dry place.
Remember that the skillet is made of iron and is cast in one piece, so the handles heat up. With the Lodge silicone handle holders for pots and pans, you can handle it safely and without burning yourself.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Lodge cast iron pieces are heavy, and they are not dishwasher safe. One good thing about them (besides being incredible, natural pans) is that they already come seasoned from the factory, so you can start using them as soon as they arrive at home (no pre-seasoning required). But remember: they are made of cast iron, but not vitrified, so right after washing them they must be dried, or rust will appear. If rust does appear, simply use a scrub pad to restore it. If you want, you can season it from time to time... Although you're doing that with every use! Use it every day, dry it right away, and you'll have a skillet for life (and incredibly tasty recipes and natural flavors).

NOTE: The factory seasoning gives Lodge cast iron pieces a rustic finish with certain imperfections, such as a brown mark on the rim, the handle, or the grip. Don't worry! These are small spots where the oil has not bonded to the iron, but you can use your piece without any problem. It is not a defect or rust, and it disappears with regular use and care.
