The Staub cast iron Cocotte is an impressive cocotte. A piece designed for wonderful cooking, enhancing flavors, retaining heat with great efficiency, and delivering results so tender and juicy that you'll use it far more than you imagine. Made in France, this cocotte in cast iron with vitreous enamel stands out for its great durability, excellent heat retention and distribution, and versatility. With it, you can make stews, roast foods, and bake bread. You can do it all!
A big part of what makes Staub cocottes special is their condensation lid. This self-basting structure, not only retains moisture, but makes the most of it, distributing condensation water over the food in the form of raindrops. The results are much more tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Plus, its flat design allows you to place ice cubes on the lid to boost the steam inside, ideal for slow cooking or baking homemade bread.
The the interior vitrified enamel of the Staub casserole is matte black. Very durable and valued for how well it performs in slow, gentle cooking as well as at high temperatures. This finish helps foods brown, it is highly durable, very resistant to stains and scratches, and makes cleaning and maintaining your casserole easier.
The enameled cast iron is, simply put, a magnificent material for cooking. Free from nonstick coatings, it offers a completely natural and healthy cooking method for food. It retains heat extremely well and distributes it evenly, from the base to the rim and the lid, which also heats up. Its wide handles make it easy and comfortable to handle, so you can enjoy cooking with it and take it to the table to serve your recipes directly.
With a Staub cast iron casserole, you can cook as many recipes as you can imagine. Its greater thickness is a wonderful advantage, as it retains heat extraordinarily well. This helps you cook very efficiently. The casserole is ideal for:
The 20 cm cocotte holds 2.2 litres and weighs 3.36 kg; the 24 cm, 3.7 litres and 4.65 kg; the 26 cm, 5.25 litres and 5.73 kg; the 28 cm, 6.7 litres and 6.97 kg; and the 30 cm, 8.35 litres and 7.93 kg.
It's a condensation lid: inside it has small raised points that collect the steam and return it to the food as drops, like gentle rain. This makes stews more tender and juicy.
Because it's the enamel that cooks best. In long stews, less sticks than with a light interior, the sauce reduces less, and the aromas stay in the dish rather than on the walls. It also browns meat better and is very easy to clean.
Yes, and very well. You can put ice cubes on its flat lid to create more steam inside, like a steam oven, and the bread comes out with a crunchy crust and a soft crumb.
It's a vitrified enamel with intense colours, a deep shine and reflections that make each piece unique, inspired by majolica, the glazed pottery of the Italian Renaissance. The name comes from Maiolica, the old Italian name for Majorca, the port through which glazed pottery of Hispano-Moorish tradition reached Italy.
The Staub is enamelled: its black matte interior resists stains and scratches, is easy to clean and can go in the dishwasher, although we recommend washing it by hand. The unenamelled Lodge comes seasoned and needs to be dried well after washing so it doesn't rust.
Because the stork is the symbol of Alsace, Staub's home. For centuries it nested on the roofs of the region's half-timbered houses; it almost disappeared and has since been brought back. It stands for good luck and family, and in Alsace they say it protects the house where it builds its nest.
Yes. It works on all hobs, including induction, and in the oven. It withstands -20 °C to 260 °C, so it can also go in the fridge and the freezer.
It can go in the dishwasher, but we recommend washing it by hand. Its black matte enamel interior resists stains and scratches and is very easy to clean. When cooking, use wooden, silicone or nylon utensils.
Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. Made in France.
