I love handmade things. I find it very special to serve a lovingly prepared recipe on a hand-crafted plate, enjoy a good wine in a clay glass, or present a special appetizer in a unique bowl.
Wherever I go, I am always looking for this kind of product so I can enjoy it in quiet moments, to turn an ordinary moment into something special (I confess my eyes light up every day when I pick up that mug, that bowl, that glass... the one I bought at that market, that workshop—I remember why I bought each one), or to offer an original presentation at special meals. I also love giving this kind of product as a gift. It is an original, different gift that always makes a great impression, since they are unique and very personal pieces.
At home we already have many handcrafted ceramic utensils, but when I discovered Pols Ceramic's work through Patricia from Sabores y momentos, I immediately knew I wanted to meet Gloria in person and see some of her creations in her workshop. Gloria is a very kind and approachable person, and it didn’t take long for us to talk about offering her products in our store.
The Pols Ceramic workshop is a very special, personal little corner in a very quiet area of Barcelona. There, next to a bright display cabinet, Gloria works the pieces by hand on her wheel and fires them in two stages, at 1020ºC and at 1260ºC, to achieve pieces with a durable, high-quality finish.
The pieces Gloria makes are very functional, designed for everyday use, with a simple yet very natural and warm design. In addition, because they are handmade, each piece is unique and carries the personal stamp of Gloria’s hands and work. Imperfections are part of the art of making things by hand, resulting in perfect imperfection.
