With this authentic Cuban mojito recipe we're kicking off the warm season, along with our Magimix Cook Expert. In this recipe we mainly use the machine to make a perfect crushed ice* and thoroughly chill our mojito, although there are purists who prefer ice cubes. This gives us an excuse to prepare it both ways and compare… a field study, as they call it.
Legends say that the wonderful mojito was invented in Cuba and that it was one of Mr. Hemingway's many favorite drinks, which he drank at the famous Bodeguita del Medio in Havana… ah, those were the days.
If you haven't tried the Cuban mojito, you're already late, because this masterful mix of rum, lime juice, mint, sugar and ice is one of the most refreshing cocktails there is. Let's get to it — with the Magimix this cocktail can be made by a six-year-old. Although I will deny having said that.
*I used the Magimix Cook Expert, which leaves the ice perfectly crushed in no time. If you don't have it, you can use a blender.

Ingredients (for 4 mojitos)
- 200 ml aged rum
- 80 g white or brown granulated sugar
- 150 ml lime juice
- 4-5 mint leaves per glass
- 400 ml sparkling water
- 400 g ice cubes
Preparation
- We squeeze the limes' juice and set it aside.
- We wash the mint leaves and distribute them into the glasses.
- We put the ice cubes into the Magimix jug. We select the Blender program, Crushed ice and press Auto. If the ice isn't perfectly crushed at the end of the minute the program runs automatically, repeat the program and stop when you see it's perfectly crushed.
- We remove the lid cap and add the lime juice, the rum and the sugar. Program Crushed ice again and stop by pressing Stop when we judge the mojito is well mixed.
- We distribute the mojito into the glasses prepared with the mint. Finish filling the glasses with the sparkling water.
- We lightly muddle the mint in each glass with a long spoon or a utensil for that purpose (experts say this is essential and indeed the touch of mint is magnificent), garnish with a lime slice and dive into the mojito. But with elegance.

Although it may be improper to say so, just look at how this mojito looks. Some prefer to use white rum instead of the aged rum I used, but personally I think aged rum has more flavor than white. Judge for yourselves.
