There’s no more charming way to make your crêpes and pancakes than with the Sugar Skull Lodge cast iron crepe pan. And if you feel like an omelet, a steak, a few slices of salmon, or some roasted vegetables, with this 26.7 cm crepe pan you can do it all, because it is a griddle as wonderful as it is beautiful. Thanks to its cast iron construction it retains and distributes heat beautifully, and because it has no sides, it’s lighter and very easy to handle.

But what makes it a collector’s piece is the engraved sugar skull of the Xolo dog on the outside base, surrounded by decorative details. Created by Mexican artist Lourdes Villagómez, the illustration pays tribute to the Day of the Dead celebration with one of its most special figures. Xolo is in charge of guiding souls through Mitclán, comforting those who have passed and those who have lost a loved one.

Made of cast iron, it stands out for its great heat retention for longer, and even heat distribution. Its natural non-stick surface, with no coatings or finishes and PFOA-free, and its beautiful engravings on the base, make it a collector’s crepe pan that no kitchen should be without.

The Lodge crepe pan offers a cooking surface that, in addition to being very efficient, improves its non-stick performance with use. Its slightly raised edge helps keep batter, oil, or food fat in place. You’ll be able to make great crêpes, but you’ll also have a fantastic smooth griddle in the kitchen, oven, or barbecue, for cooking everything from vegetables to meats, fish, pizzas, or cookies with a flavorful result.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Lodge cast iron pieces are heavy, and are not dishwasher-safe. One of their advantages (apart from being incredible, natural pieces) is that they come pre-seasoned from the factory, so you can start using them as soon as they arrive at your home (no prior seasoning required). But remember: they are made of cast iron but not enameled, so right after washing they must be dried, or rust will appear. If rust does appear, simply scrub it off with steel wool to restore it. If you want, you can season it from time to time... although you do it with every use! Use it daily, dry it right away, and you’ll have a pan for life (and incredibly tasty recipes with natural flavors).

What sets the Lodge cast iron Crepe Pan apart

  • Its sturdy construction. The crepe pan is made of cast iron, with no type of non-stick coating, PFOA-free, and free of toxic elements. This sturdiness lets you use any utensil when cooking with it, including stainless steel ones.
  • Its functional design. Its sturdy handle and iron construction make it perfect for cooking on any stovetop, including induction. You can also use it directly over an open flame, in a fireplace, or on a barbecue. And it’s oven-safe.
  • Its ease of handling. Even though it’s a sturdy piece, its integrated, slightly raised one-piece handle design is made to be comfortable and easy to handle.
  • Its durability. Since it is made entirely of cast iron, it is a crepe pan that will last you far longer than a lifetime.
  • Its excellent quality-to-durability ratio and its price. They’re affordable pieces, with exceptional durability and unquestionable quality.
  • Its rough finish. Lodge makes all its crepe pans and skillets in a single piece and in unique sand molds; this gives them their characteristic slightly rough finish on both the inside and outside surfaces and makes each piece unique and one of a kind. With use, a patina forms that will eventually create a smooth, naturally non-stick surface.
  • Its factory seasoning or curing. All Lodge cast iron pieces are seasoned in the factory so that when you receive them at home they’re ready to use. Seasoning cast iron, called polymerization, consists of applying a layer of vegetable oil to the piece and heating it in the oven to a temperature high enough for the oil to bond to the iron. This process gives Lodge cookware its classic black patina, creating a naturally non-stick cooking surface, which is also a protective layer that helps prevent the cookware from rusting.
  • Its excellent non-stick properties. Lodge pieces offer natural non-stick performance, allowing you to cook almost without oil. In addition, the more they’re used, the more non-stick they become.
  • Its great heat retention and even heat distribution. Because it’s made of iron, it retains heat exceptionally well for longer, and distributes it evenly. Thanks to the high temperatures iron reaches, it lets you sear food in its own juices, preserving all its flavor. The result is much tastier, with that classic flavor you know and love.
  • Its versatility. Lodge pieces are suitable for all types of cooktops and heat sources. You can cook with it on gas, ceramic, electric, induction, wood-burning stoves, barbecue, and also in the oven.
  • The more than 125 years of Lodge experience in manufacturing cast iron pieces. Manufacturers since 1896, Lodge is an iconic brand not only in the USA, its country of origin where they still make all their cast iron products today, at the Lodge foundries in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.

When you want to use it, simply let it heat up gradually so the heat spreads evenly throughout the piece, and start cooking when it’s very hot. To clean it, let it cool first; wash it with a sponge and non-abrasive detergent and lightly oil the inner surface to prevent rust. For optimal care, it’s best to always store it in a dry place.

Remember that the crepe pan is made of iron and is cast in one piece, so the handle gets hot. With the Lodge hot-handle silicone protector you’ll be able to handle it safely and without burning yourself.

NOTE: Factory seasoning gives Lodge cast iron pieces a rustic finish with certain imperfections, such as an occasional brown mark on the rim, handle, or grip. Don’t worry! These are small spots where the oil hasn’t bonded with the iron, but you can use your piece without any problem. It’s not a defect and it’s not rust; it disappears with normal use and care.
