The De Buyer curing and maintenance wax is the helper you need to make curing and maintaining your iron pans easier. Made in France, this 100% natural wax is a wonderful and very practical remedy that will facilitate the initial curing and protect your pans from rust between uses, until the patina forms that gives them that characteristic dark color.

The wax is dry to the touch and odorless. It comes in a handy 100 ml aluminum jar and will last you a long time. Thanks to its stable composition, it does not go rancid or absorb odors.

When and how you can use De Buyer curing and maintenance wax

De Buyer natural wax has been made to make it easier to maintain all De Buyer iron pieces during the first uses, until the patina naturally forms with use and time.

On your pans, paella pans, crepe pans, grills, griddles, or mineral iron fryers you can use the wax instead of oil, both for initial curing and maintenance, as follows:

  • Regular maintenance, to protect your iron pan from rust between uses. Each time you cook with your pan, after washing and drying it well, apply a thin layer of wax all over the inside before storing it. By applying this layer of wax, you will protect the pan from rust while not in use. When you cook again with your pan, you should wash it with hot water and a soft sponge to remove that layer of wax.
  • For the first curing. When you receive the pan, after washing it with hot water and a soft sponge, and drying it well, it is important to do an initial curing. If you do it with wax:
    • Spread and rub the wax evenly over the entire inner surface of the pan.
    • Place the pan on the stove and heat over medium heat until it starts to smoke slightly and the bottom begins to change color.
    • Let the pan cool and rinse well with hot water to remove excess wax.
    • Dry and heat the empty pan again for a couple of minutes to ensure it is completely dry, and then you can use the pan.

Since it is 100% natural wax you can use it as often as necessary to keep your mineral iron utensils well protected.
