Important things to know about Mineral B cast iron pans
- The De Buyer pans are made in France and are the only ones that exist with a purity certificate of iron above 99%. The best!
- They are cast iron pans, so they can rust. How to prevent it? Avoid prolonged contact with water, do not let them air dry: simply, after washing, dry them with a cloth. If you want, you can put them back on low heat for a few minutes to remove any moisture while you finish cooking (it's a very easy and useful trick).
- If you plan to leave them unused for many days, you can apply a little oil and spread it over the surface with a paper towel, but it is not essential.
- Before the first use, it's very interesting to cure them. This curing makes them more naturally non-stick. Curing is super simple to do. Check the video among the photos to see how to do it.
- You have a pan for a lifetime! You can scrub it with a soft sponge or wash it with scouring pads if needed to remove food, and nothing will happen to the pan! (there is no non-stick coating that you can damage). They may turn black, uniformly or in patches. Don't worry, the blacker they are, the better they will work.
- If rust spots appear, wipe them with a paper towel with oil, and you will see how they disappear like magic. If the rusted area is larger, scrub it with a scouring pad without fear. No worries; it’s a completely cast iron pan: under the layer of iron, there’s more iron.
- If you have had to scrub it with scouring pads or simply if you want to, you can cure it again, but it’s not essential to keep doing it.
