Whether you prefer a smooth griddle or love grill marks, with the Lodge Square Cast Iron Skillet you will achieve delicious results. Its cast iron construction guarantees excellent heat retention and even temperature distribution. Its natural non-stick surface allows you to cook healthily and naturally without sacrificing traditional flavors.
With this skillet, you will get wonderfully flavorful results. Thanks to the high temperatures that cast iron reaches, it sears food, locking in all the flavor. The square pan with grill surface is perfect for achieving that wonderful grill mark on meat, vegetables, or fish. The smooth pan is ideal for cooking on the griddle with very little oil and with the same flavorful results. And it's a perfect mold for pizzas, quiches, empanadas, focaccias, and even cookies, since you can use it on the stove, in the oven, on the grill, or over an open flame of a campfire.
IMPORTANT! As you may have deduced after seeing the production process, the pans are NOT perfect: they have small imperfections that are quite common, usually related to some irregularity in the cast iron. This is normal and nothing to worry about (if there isn't one small imperfection, there will be another). It's part of their process and charm, and you can be totally at ease because what's important is that the seasoning has been done throughout the entire pan.
When you want to use it, just let it heat gradually so the heat distributes evenly throughout the piece, and start cooking when it is very hot. To clean it, let it cool first; wash it with a sponge and non-abrasive detergent and lightly oil the interior surface to prevent rust. For optimal preservation, it is recommended to always store it in a dry place.
Remember that the skillet is cast iron and made in one piece, so both the handle and the helper handle get hot. With the silicone handle protector for hot handles from Lodge and the silicone handle covers for Lodge pots, you can handle it safely without burning yourself.
NOTE: Factory seasoning gives Lodge cast iron pieces a rustic finish with some imperfections, such as some brown marks on the edge, handle, or helper handle. Don't worry! These are small spots where the oil hasn't integrated into the iron, but you can use your piece without problems. It is not a defect nor rust and disappears with regular use and care.
The flat version is great for eggs, fish and vegetables, and as a tin for pizza or focaccia. The grill version has ridges that leave griddle marks on meat, vegetables or fish.
Both are about 43 cm long including the handle and 25.5 cm wide, with a cooking surface of about 20.5 x 20.5 cm. The flat version weighs 2.72 kg and the grill version 3.32 kg.
No. Lodge seasons it at the factory with vegetable oil, so you can use it as soon as it arrives. Every time you cook with fat, the seasoning gets better.
Because cast iron gets better with use. Heat it up gradually over a medium heat with a thin layer of oil, and let the food release on its own before turning it. The more you use it, the more non-stick it becomes.
Yes. It works on all hobs, including induction, as well as in the oven, on the barbecue and over a campfire.
By hand, with hot water and a sponge; cast iron is not dishwasher safe. Dry it straight away and, if you like, rub it with a thin layer of oil. If a little rust ever appears, scrub it off with a scourer and oil it again. You'll find all the details in our Lodge guide (in Spanish).
