You’re holding one of Emile Henry’s most iconic pieces! The Emile Henry ceramic tajine is a very special kitchen tool, ideal for slow cooking all sorts of dishes that result in incredibly tender textures and intensified flavours. Crafted in France by skilled artisans using Burgundian clay, it is hand‑made, less porous, more resistant and excellent at retaining moisture.

How does a tajine work?

With its cone-shaped lid, the tajine ensures optimal steam circulation, perfect for recipes that need long cooking with aromatic spices and herbs—whether meat, fish or vegetables. The steam cycle enhances flavour and tenderness, it looks stunning on the table and keeps food warm for longer.

What dishes can you cook in the Emile Henry tajine?

  • Meat tajines: chicken with preserved lemon & olives, lamb with prunes & almonds, beef with dates & spices, or kefta meatballs in tomato sauce with poached eggs.
  • Vegetarian/vegan tajines: chickpeas with pumpkin & spinach, aubergine with tomato & onion, potato & carrot with cumin, or red lentils with turmeric & ginger.
  • Fish/seafood tajines: white fish with tomato & peppers, prawns with fennel, or hake with black olives & lemon.
  • Sides & bases: spiced vegetables for couscous, rice with dried fruit & caramelised onion, or as a warming serving dish at the table.

Recipes without the lid:

  • Stir‑fries & sautés: vegetables, mushrooms, artichokes, spring onions—the wide base distributes heat evenly.
  • Rice dishes: vegetable rice, chicken rice, bacalao with chickpeas or cuttlefish rice; also great for risotto.
  • Stews & soups: lentils, gentle stews, potatoes, chickpeas with spinach or sautéed peas.
  • Bakes in oven: lasagne, stuffed vegetables, moussaka, gratins or savoury pies.
  • Sweet dishes: compotes, baked fruit (apple, pear, peach) or clafoutis.
  • Table presentation: beautiful base that keeps dishes warm on the table.

History of Emile Henry

Emile Henry is a highly reputable French company, family-owned with 75 years of history, manufacturing high-quality ceramic kitchenware with a 10-year warranty since 1850.

With great international prestige, it is currently present in more than 50 countries and is recognized for its elegant and delicate designs, perfectly combining tradition, French savoir faire and functionality in the most beautiful pieces.

Its delicate artisanal manufacturing process is based on the use of Burgundy clay fired at over 2000 ºC, to which a natural finishing glaze is then applied by hand.

Want a fun fact? All pieces are handmade, one by one, in a highly careful artisanal process. And each piece is signed by the artisan who makes it on the underside back (the part of the base that is not visible), conveying the love put into each one!
