What distinguishes the Lodge 2-in-1 Cast Iron Griddle and Round Plate
-
Its robust construction. The round griddle is made of cast iron, without any type of non-stick coating or toxic elements. This robustness allows you to use any utensil when cooking with it, even stainless steel ones.
-
Its functional design. Its iron construction makes it perfect to use as a griddle on any stove, even induction. You can also use it directly over an open flame, fireplace, or barbecue. And it's oven-safe, both as a roasting tray and as a mold for baking pies, quiches, or sweet and savory pastries.
-
Its durability. Since it is made entirely of cast iron, this griddle will last you much more than a lifetime.
-
Its excellent balance of quality, durability, and price. These are affordable pieces with exceptional durability and unquestionable quality.
-
Its rough finish. Lodge manufactures all its cast iron utensils in a single piece and unique sand molds; this gives them their characteristic slightly rough finish on both the interior and exterior surfaces and makes each piece unique and unrepeatable. With use, a patina forms that will eventually create a smooth and naturally non-stick surface.
-
Its factory seasoning. All Lodge cast iron pieces receive factory seasoning so that when you receive them at home they are ready to use. The curing of cast iron, called polymerization, consists of applying a layer of vegetable oil to the piece and heating it in the oven at a high enough temperature for the oil to bond with the iron. This process gives Lodge cookware its classic black patina, creating a a naturally non-stick cooking surface, which is also a protective layer that helps prevent the utensils from rusting.
-
Its excellent non-stick properties. Lodge pieces offer a natural non-stick surface, allowing you to cook with almost no oil. Moreover, the more they are used, the more non-stick they become.
-
Its great heat retention and even heat distribution. Being cast iron, it retains heat excellently for longer and distributes it evenly. Thanks to the high temperatures cast iron reaches, it allows sealing food with its own juices, preserving all its flavor. The result is much tastier, like traditional flavors.
- The more than 125 years of Lodge's experience in manufacturing cast iron pieces. Manufacturers since 1896, Lodge is an iconic brand not only in the USA, its country of origin where they still manufacture all their cast iron products at the Lodge foundries in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.
To cook with this griddle, simply heat it gradually so the heat spreads evenly throughout the piece. You can start cooking when it's very hot. To clean it, let it cool first; wash it with a sponge and non-abrasive detergent and lightly oil the interior surface to prevent rust. For optimal preservation, it's best to always store it in a dry place.
NOTE: Factory seasoning gives Lodge cast iron pieces a rustic finish with certain imperfections, such as some brown marks on the edge, handle, or grip. Don’t worry! These are small spots where the oil has not integrated into the iron, but you can use your piece without problems. It is not a defect nor rust and disappears with regular use and care.
