Made in Germany and with the same design as the clay ovens from the German brand, it stands out for its charming countryside-inspired reliefs. Farm animals and garden fruits share the spotlight surrounding the base and lid of this beautiful piece, in which Römertopf is prominently engraved, the brand name and "Roman pot" in German.

Cooking with this terracotta oven is one of the healthiest, most natural, easy, clean, and tasty ways to prepare your roasts and stews in the oven or microwave. This natural clay roaster transforms food wonderfully, saving you time in the kitchen when preparing your dishes, and also when cleaning! Like a ceramic oven, it is an ideal piece for healthy cooking, with all the flavor, aroma, and nutrients of the food. Perfect for bread and roasts, the chicken turns out incredible, as do all kinds of meats and fish. And it is a wonderful clay pot for stewing and braising all kinds of dishes, with tasty, aromatic, nutritious, and healthy results.

What is the Rustic Römertopf Terracotta Oven

Terracotta ovens are the pieces that distinguish Römertopf. The German brand has been a reference in clay roasters for decades. These Roman pots revive the art of traditional cooking and feature an unmistakable design, like the pots used by the Romans, with reliefs on the lid and base, inspired by farm animals and garden fruits.

. These ovens are made with natural clay from Westerwald (Germany) completely free of lead, cadmium, dyes, plasticizers, or toxic substances. In these roasters, only the interior of the base has a vitrified glaze, but the rest of the oven is unglazed. They are semi-porous and, by soaking them before cooking, they are perfect for cooking with internal steam, without needing to add oil or fat.

Römertopf terracotta ovens offer a traditional, efficient, and simple way to cook. Clay is one of the oldest and safest cooking materials known, and it distributes heat evenly, preserving the juices, aromas, and nutrients of the food. Cooking is natural, healthy, and low-fat; food cooks gently and the results are very tender and tasty inside, and crispy and golden outside.

How to cook with the Rustic Römertopf Terracotta Oven

When you receive your Römertopf terracotta oven, you will need to wash it and also soak the lid for a long time. It is necessary to immerse the lid in water for 45 minutes. After the time has passed, remove the lid from the water and let it air dry. The base, having the vitrified glaze, does not require this initial soaking and you only need to do this long soak for the lid once.

When you are ready to cook, you will see how simple it is:

  • The first step is to soak the terracotta oven. Immerse the base and lid of the roaster in cold water for 15 minutes. By soaking the oven, the clay absorbs water and releases it as steam during cooking. Inside the roaster, a humid environment is created that keeps the food juicy without needing to add oil. This ensures the result is more tender.
  • Dry the base of the roaster and place the food. For roasting a chicken, this oven is undoubtedly the best choice; red meats, fish, vegetables, and greens also turn out wonderfully. With it, you can roast, stew, bake, and braise all kinds of foods. Season to your taste, but you will not need to add oil or fat.
  • Drain the lid to remove excess water and place it on the base, covering the terracotta oven.
  • Place the roaster inside the cold oven and heat the oven to the temperature required by the recipe (usually between 180 and 250 °C). The roaster must heat gradually, at the same time as the oven.
  • Let it cook for the necessary time. The steam generated inside the roasting oven will cook the food healthily, aromatically, and gently, without drying it out.
  • Once ready, bring the terracotta oven to the table to serve. Its beautiful and artistic design makes it ideal for presenting your recipes directly in the roaster. And its handle integrated into the lid allows comfortable and safe handling
  • When the roasting oven is cold, you can wash it normally, by hand or in the dishwasher. But it is not advisable to leave it soaking for a long time and, before storing, it must be completely dry.

Its wonderful temperature distribution, easy and comfortable use, and manufacture with natural and healthy materials make it a valuable piece in the kitchen. With this terracotta oven, you can prepare all kinds of recipes: stews, roasting vegetables, meats, fish, seafood, and also baking bread and cakes. It is an essential ally to make your life easier in the kitchen and to achieve tasty and juicy results.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To cook with Römertopf clay roasters and ovens, it must be done with a cold oven, never preheat the oven before placing the terracotta roaster inside. The roaster must heat gradually, at the same time as the oven.
