. These ovens are made with natural clay from Westerwald (Germany) completely free of lead, cadmium, dyes, plasticizers, or toxic substances. In these roasters, only the interior of the base has a vitrified glaze, but the rest of the oven is unglazed. They are semi-porous and, by soaking them before cooking, they are perfect for cooking with internal steam, without needing to add oil or fat.
Römertopf terracotta ovens offer a traditional, efficient, and simple way to cook. When you receive your Römertopf terracotta oven, you will need to wash it and also soak the lid for a long time. It is necessary to immerse the lid in water for 45 minutes. After the time has passed, remove the lid from the water and let it air dry. The base, having the vitrified glaze, does not require this initial soaking and you only need to do this long soak for the lid once.
