With all the virtues of cast iron and a stunning design, the Lodge Cast Iron Skillet is a tall , two-handled skillet that will make cooking a breeze. Its extra height, two wide handles, and excellent heat retention and distribution make this piece perfect for frying, sautéing, browning, stewing, baking, or roasting all kinds of dishes, with results that are sure to please.
The high walls make it ideal for frying, as it prevents splashing , and the iron makes the fried food very crispy. This greater height gives it a generous capacity , making it a great option for preparing any recipe , from a stir-fry or a spoon dish in the kitchen, to a low-temperature stew in the oven, a loaf on the barbecue or some crumbs on the campfire. The two handles make it easy to handle and will allow you to easily move it from the stove to the oven or comfortably carry it from the oven to the table.
Note: You will notice in the photos that depending on the format, they offer a pouring spout (in the intermediate sizes), or they have smooth walls (the 20 and 43cm formats). This is not a mistake... perhaps a whim of the designer... or that the original moulds in these sizes each have their own peculiarity.
What sets the Lodge Two-Handled Skillet Fry Pan apart?
-
Its robust construction . Lodge saucepans are made of cast iron , without any non-stick coating or toxic elements. This sturdiness allows you to use any utensil when cooking with them, even stainless steel ones.
-
Its greater height. The high walls of this piece give it greater capacity and versatility. In addition to reducing splashes, this is an added advantage to its functionality, as it makes it a wonderful saucepan or an ideal mould for your doughs.
-
Its handling . Even though it is a robust frying pan, its design with two wide handles is conceived so that it can be handled easily, comfortably and safely.
-
Its durability . The pan is made entirely of cast iron, making it a piece that lasts much longer than a lifetime.
-
Its excellent relationship between quality and durability and its price . They are affordable pieces, with exceptional durability and unquestionable quality.
-
Its rough finish . Lodge makes all of its utensils in a single piece and in unique sand molds; this gives them their characteristic slightly rough finish on both the interior and exterior surfaces and makes each piece unique and unrepeatable. With use, a patina forms that will end up creating a smooth and naturally non-stick surface.
-
Factory seasoning or curing . All Lodge cast iron pieces are factory seasoned or cured so that they are ready to use when you receive them at home . Curing cast iron, called polymerization, involves applying a coating of vegetable oil to the piece and heating it in the oven to a high enough temperature that the oil bonds to the iron. This process gives Lodge cast iron its classic black patina, creating a naturally nonstick cooking surface that is also a protective coating that helps prevent the cookware from rusting.
-
Its excellent non-stick properties . Lodge pieces offer a natural non-stick coating, which allows you to cook almost without oil. Plus, the more you use them, the more non-stick they become.
-
Its rapid heating and heat retention . Being made of iron, it heats up quickly and the thickness of its body maintains heat evenly for longer. This allows food to be sealed in its own juices, maintaining all its flavour. The result is much tastier, like the flavours of always.
-
Its versatility. The frying pan is suitable for all types of cookers and heat sources. You can cook with it on gas, ceramic, electric, induction, wood-burning stoves, barbecues, fireplaces, and also in the oven or over a campfire.
- Lodge's 125+ years of experience in the manufacture of cast iron parts . Manufacturers since 1896, Lodge is an iconic brand not only in the USA, its country of origin and where all its cast iron products are still manufactured, in the Lodge foundries in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee.
When you want to use it, you just have to let it heat up gradually, so that the heat is evenly distributed throughout the piece, and start cooking when it is very hot. To clean it, let it cool down first; wash it with a sponge and non-abrasive detergent and lightly oil the inside surface to prevent it from rusting. For optimal preservation, it is recommended to always store it in a dry place.
Please note that the pan is made of cast iron and is made in one piece, so the handles get hot. With Lodge silicone pan handle protectors , you can handle it safely and without burning yourself.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Lodge cast iron pieces are heavy, and not dishwasher safe . The good thing about them (aside from being amazing, natural pans) is that they come pre-seasoned at the factory , so you can start using them right away when they arrive at your home (no pre-seasoning required). But remember: they are cast iron, not vitrified , so they must be dried before they are washed, or rust will form. If rust does form, just wipe it with a cloth to restore it. If you want, you can season it from time to time... but you're doing it with every use! Use it daily, dry it immediately, and you'll have a pan that will last a lifetime (and some incredibly tasty recipes with natural flavors).

NOTE: Factory seasoning gives Lodge cast iron pieces a rustic finish with some imperfections, such as a brown mark on the rim, handle or grip. Don't worry! These are small spots where the oil hasn't soaked into the iron, but your piece is safe to use. This is not a defect or rust and will disappear with regular use and care.
