When using, allow it to heat gradually for even heat distribution. After cooking, let it cool before washing; clean with a soft sponge and mild soap, dry thoroughly, and lightly oil the interior to prevent rust. Store in a dry place.
Remember that the pan is made of solid cast iron, so the handles will get hot. Use Lodge silicone handle holders to handle it safely and comfortably.
Lodge cast iron pieces are heavy and not dishwasher safe. The great advantage is that they come pre-seasoned from the factory, so they’re ready to use immediately (no initial seasoning required). However, since they’re made of bare cast iron (not enamelled), they must be dried thoroughly after washing to prevent rust. If rust appears, simply scrub it off with steel wool. With daily use, you’re seasoning it naturally every time. Use it regularly, dry it immediately, and you’ll have a lifetime pan – and incredibly flavourful cooking.
NOTE: The factory seasoning gives each piece a rustic finish with small imperfections, such as brownish marks on the edge or handles. Don’t worry – these are normal and disappear with regular use and care.
