Nothing announces the arrival of autumn better than the smell of roasted chestnuts. And if you're like us—unable to resist making them as soon as it gets cooler—this Set will delight you.

We have brought together two pieces that work wonderfully together: the De Buyer cast iron pan for roasting chestnuts, perfect for cooking them with that toasted touch we love, and the Opinel folding knife for chestnuts, ideal for making the cut before roasting and opening them effortlessly afterward. A simple, traditional, and very useful combo, designed to enjoy a good batch of hot chestnuts at home, by the fireplace, brazier, or even in the kitchen.

What's included in the Set

De Buyer cast iron pan for chestnuts (suitable for gas and induction)

This is De Buyer's most popular pan because it is suitable for induction, as well as all other heat sources, and since it has no perforations on the base, it also allows you to roast nuts.

The cast iron pan for chestnuts is specially designed for this use: its perforations allow heat to enter directly, achieving even cooking and perfect toasting. It is sturdy, durable, and can be used both over direct fire and embers.

What you can use the chestnut roasting pan for:

  • To roast chestnuts
  • Since the perforations are small and on the sides, you can use the pan all year round for toasting nuts (hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews...), seeds (sunflower, pumpkin...), dried coconut, muesli, or oats... Avoiding the need to turn on the oven for that toasting.

As French as La Marseillaise, De Buyer cast iron pans are eco-friendly, recyclable, and built to last a lifetime. It is a cast iron pan that will last you forever, and you can make the most of it both on the stove and in the fireplace and barbecue.

  1. Handcrafted in iron,
  2. Free of heavy metals.
  3. Suitable for all heat sources including induction.
  4. Suitable for use in the fireplace and barbecue.

Opinel folding knife for chestnuts

This small but great knife is the perfect tool to accompany roasting. A gem for chestnuts, garlic, small fruits, or olives! Its short, sharp blade allows you to make the initial cut in the chestnut skin and open them comfortably when cooked. Its folding design makes it practical and safe, and like every good Opinel, it is made to last many years.

  • The knife has a Virobloc safety ring.
  • Opinel Knife No. 7
  • The blade length is 4 cm
  • It is made of Sandvik Stainless Steel
  • The handle is made of very durable, high-quality chestnut wood

This knife also features a Virobloc safety ring, a system patented by Opinel to ensure the knives are as safe as possible.

Notes about the chestnut pan:

  • Being made of blue iron mineral, they come with a special factory treatment to protect them from oxidation, and unlike Mineral B pans, these chestnut pans no seasoning required.
  • When you receive it at home, wipe it with a dry cloth to remove any factory dust, and it’s ready to use!
  • You don’t need to wash it after use; when it’s cold, wipe it with a dry cloth and you can store it until next use (you don’t cook in it, you only roast chestnuts or nuts that won’t dirty the pan, so you won’t need to wash it as such).
  • If you want to know how to roast nuts in the pan, I encourage you to check out this post.

Why we love this Set

  • It’s the perfect duo to enjoy chestnuts at home, hassle-free.
  • It combines tradition and functionality: two simple, effective, and beautiful tools.
  • The pan is ready to use as soon as you get it, no seasoning needed.
  • Iron and steel are durable materials that last a lifetime.
  • Roasting chestnuts is not just cooking: it’s a little ritual we love to repeat every autumn.
