Why choose an Italian coffee maker?

Because they are timeless classics, they work without complications and make a strong, aromatic, and full-bodied coffee. An Italian moka coffee maker not only is easy to use, but also is durable, economical, and takes up very little space (and they don’t use electricity!).

Ideal for those who enjoy the coffee ritual and don’t need cables or capsules to make a good cup. And the best part: the moka coffee they prepare has that authentic flavor that many other coffee makers can’t achieve.

If I haven’t convinced you yet, I must add that only a traditional Italian coffee maker like the moka leaves that special and unique aroma at home, that call of It's coffee time!

If you’re looking for a simple, practical option that delivers good coffee every day, a moka express Italian coffee maker is one of those choices that never fail.

Which one to choose?

There are several aspects you can consider before choosing your moka coffee maker:

The material

The most traditional ones are aluminum, like the classic moka express. They are lightweight and heat up quickly, although they are not suitable for induction.

If you have an induction stove, opt for a stainless steel moka coffee maker: they are just as functional, more robust, and compatible with all types of heat sources.

The size

There are moka coffee makers for 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, or even 12 cups. Ideally, choose the one that best fits your daily routine: if there are few of you at home, a 3 or 6-cup one is usually enough. Keep in mind, however, that each "cup" they are rated for refers to small, strong espresso cups, the classic Italian style. If you usually make coffees with milk or cortados and prefer a longer coffee serving, it’s ideal to choose a larger size than the number of cups you might initially think.

Type of stove

Make sure the coffee maker you choose is compatible with your stove. If you use induction, specifically look for an induction moka coffee maker or one that says "suitable for all types of heat sources." In this regard, refer to the previous section on Material, it will be helpful (you’ll want a stainless steel moka coffee maker).

How does a moka coffee maker work?

Using an Italian moka coffee maker is very easy, and once you try it, you’ll repeat. You only need water, ground coffee, and a few minutes on the heat. How does it work?

  1. Fill the base with water just below the safety valve.
  2. Place the metal filter and fill it with ground coffee (do not press).
  3. Screw the top part on tightly.
  4. Put the coffee maker on the heat (or induction if it’s an induction moka coffee maker) and wait a few minutes.
  5. The coffee rises on its own, thanks to steam and pressure. When you hear the classic bubbling sound... Ready! You can turn off the heat once the coffee starts coming out; you’ll see it finishes brewing.

A simple and effective way to prepare coffee with an authentic flavor, like the old days.

Maintenance tips

Although they are easy to use, here are some basics to extend the life of your Italian moka coffee maker:

  • Always wash it by hand, only with water (no soap or dishwasher).
  • Dry it well after each use, especially the gasket and the reservoir.
  • Don’t leave used coffee inside for long, as it can alter the flavor.
  • If you notice the coffee doesn’t rise well, check the gasket or filter (they may need replacement over time).
  • Use medium ground coffee (neither too fine nor too coarse), and never press the coffee in the filter.

For many, coffee made in a moka is still the best coffee of the day.

And the truth is, when used properly, an Italian moka coffee maker always works. No mysteries, no residues, and a flavor that hooks you.
