With the Le Creuset ceramic butter bell your buttered toast will taste heavenly. This ceramic butter bell is very special because it can preserve butter naturally, keeping it fresh and creamy, without refrigerating it! You only need water and your favorite butter will be ready to spread, at the perfect temperature, without melting or hardening. This butter bell is a marvel!

Want to know how it works?

You'll see that the operation of the butter bell is very simple:

  • The butter bell consists of two parts or pieces of stoneware ceramic: one part is the base and the other is the lid or bell.
  • Fill the bell with butter, pressing it as much as you can to compact it and remove air bubbles (to press the butter, you can use the back of a spoon). To fill and compact it easily, it is recommended to take the butter out of the fridge a little in advance so it is at room temperature.
  • Put fresh water in the base, up to the indicated mark.
  • Cover the base with the bell (where the butter is). Done!

As soon as the bell or lid is placed on the base, the water seals it and creates an air barrier that prevents the butter from coming into contact with oxygen and light. And by not having contact with air, the butter is protected from oxidation, preventing it from spoiling or going rancid. The butter stays at the same temperature, remaining soft and creamy, ready to spread with its best texture, preserving its properties outside the fridge.

Le Creuset's glazed ceramic is non-porous, so it does not absorb odors or flavors, so the butter will be in perfect condition. Also, since the butter temperature inside the bell is constant, it won't melt if it's warm nor freeze or harden if it's cold. Its texture always remains perfect, ready for your delicious breakfast toasts or to spread on snack cookies, without having to wait for it to soften when you take it out of the fridge.
