Just like the ceramic oven, it is a wonderful clay pot for stewing and braising all kinds of dishes, with delicious, aromatic, nutritious, and healthy results. And it’s a beautiful piece!

What is the Terracotta Oven Special Anniversary! Römertopf

Terracotta ovens are the hallmark pieces of Römertopf. The German brand has been a reference in clay roasters for decades. These Roman pots revive the art of traditional cooking and feature an unmistakable design, like the pots used by the Romans, with reliefs on the lid and base inspired by antiquity, celebrating the anniversaries of the German brand.

These ovens are made with natural clay from Westerwald (Germany) completely free of lead, cadmium, dyes, plasticizers, or toxic substances. In these roasters, only the interior of the base has a vitrified glaze, but the rest of the oven is unglazed. They are semi-porous and, by soaking them before cooking, they are perfect for cooking with internal steam, without needing to add oil or fat.

Römertopf terracotta ovens offer a traditional, efficient, and simple way to cook. Clay is one of the oldest and safest cooking materials known, and it distributes heat evenly, preserving the juices, aromas, and nutrients of the food. Cooking is natural, healthy, and low-fat; food cooks gently, resulting in very tender and flavorful interiors, with crispy and golden exteriors.

How to cook with the Terracotta Oven Special Anniversary! Römertopf

When you receive your Römertopf terracotta oven, you will need to wash it and also soak the lid for a long time. It is necessary to submerge the lid in water for 45 minutes. After that time, remove the lid from the water and let it air dry. The base, having a vitrified glaze, does not require this initial soaking, and you only need to do this long soak for the lid once.

When you are ready to cook, you will see how simple it is:

  • The first step is to soak the terracotta oven. Submerge the base and lid of the roaster in cold water for 15 minutes. By soaking the oven, the clay absorbs water and releases it as steam during cooking. Inside the roaster, a humid environment is created that keeps the food juicy without needing to add oil. This ensures a more tender result.
  • Dry the base of the roaster and place the food. For roasting a chicken, this oven is undoubtedly the best choice; red meats, fish, vegetables, and greens also turn out wonderfully. You can roast, stew, bake, and braise all kinds of foods with it. Season to your taste, but you won’t need to add oil or fat.
  • Drain the lid to remove excess water and place it on the base, covering the terracotta oven.
  • Place the roaster inside the cold oven and heat the oven to the temperature required by the recipe (usually between 180 and 250 °C). The roaster must heat gradually, at the same time as the oven.
  • Let it cook for the necessary time. The steam generated inside the roaster oven will cook the food healthily, aromatically, and gently, without drying it out.
  • Once ready, bring the terracotta oven to the table to serve. Its beautiful and artistic design makes it ideal for presenting your recipes directly in the roaster. Its integrated handle on the lid allows comfortable and safe handling
  • When the roaster oven is cold, you can wash it normally, by hand or in the dishwasher. However, it is not advisable to leave it soaking for a long time, and before storing, it must be completely dry.

Its wonderful heat distribution, easy and comfortable use, and manufacture with natural and healthy materials make it a valuable piece in the kitchen. With this terracotta oven, you can prepare all kinds of recipes: stews, roasting vegetables, meats, fish, seafood, and also baking bread and cakes. It is an essential ally to make your kitchen life easier and to achieve tasty and juicy results.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To cook with Römertopf clay roasters and ovens, you must use a cold oven; never preheat the oven before placing the terracotta roaster inside. The roaster must heat gradually, at the same time as the oven.
